Not suprising, but still makes you say...

    Whoa!

Gears of War is only using 1 thread on 1 of the Xbox 360' cores. Pretty impressive wouldn't you say? Wonder what devs will be able to do, when they use all 6 threads.

Mark Rein said, they are exploring the multi-threaded code, it's new to them like most everyone else, and some is being implemented into the engine now. Also says, he's very excited, because what you see with Gears of War is just the tip of the iceberg of what the 360 can do.

When 6 threads are achieved. They will have made the hardest game ever. And there will broken controllers all across the world. It will total mayhem.

Gears of War is gorgeous but looks absolutely BORING AS HELL!

maybe it's just the level CliffyB showed at the conference, but wow...
                looks really boring.

But, when the squad guys push the flaming car down the road and the light sources cast realtime shadows on the doorways and architecture behind them...
                O M G so awesome looking

There's no doubt to the strength of their new engine though...
                Bring on Unreal already!

Forgive my ignorance, but what are the advantages of having multi-threaded programming/processing?

Well i just got back from local gamestop...

                      tidbits i learned today.

my gamestop has 127 preorders for XBOX 360, and they are expecting to fill all of those on launch day. the manager said that microsoft will be shifting shipments around to ensure that stores that offer preorders are able to meet the demand. he said that will take away shipments from places such as walmart, target, best buy, etc....

also learned that not all games will be 59.99 next gen.

he said games produced by microsoft (PGR3, PDZ) will be 49.99, while third party titles will be 59.99.

Also said with the 11/22/05 release date, it looks like there will be 20+ games available week 1.

I think it looks fun. I like that you will actually have to use cover. It's a nice change from the run around guns a blazin FPS games. The mulitplayer deathmatch on XBL should be absolutely sick. I can't wait for deatals on that. This game has alot of dev time left too (8-10 months).

You've been doing an excellent job keeping OS informed since the announcement of the next-gen consoles.

Absolutely. When it comes to what's going on with what is upcoming there is noone who can break it down like him. Even if he is a Nolie he does a great job of filtering out the junk and proving the essential info.

that was probably the first level anyway.

Looking at these games makes me salivate at the thought of next-gen baseball and soccer!!!

                                Short answer...

We're hitting a speed ceiling on processors. To continue getting performance increases, we have to start writing multithreaded code.
