Developers Migrating from PS3 to Xbox 360 Development?

By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"

    Oct. 12th, 2005 2:06 pm

PS3Today.com and PS3Focus.com have reported a recent Japanese article about PS3 developer support, which has an insider source claiming that the initial investment for PS3 software development it at least ¥2 billion (U$S 17.6 million), and that figure does not include the actual development costs associated directly with the title.

This initial investment, according to this insider source, is "nothing but a nightmare for many Japanese software development companies."

The article also reveals that the prevailing rumor in Japanese game development circles is that many companies may end up developing for the Xbox 360, which will lower R&D costs since the system shares many similarities with Windows game development, allowing developers to release a single title on both platforms.

Could Sony’s ambitious plans for the PlayStation 3 scare small game developers away and push them to towards Xbox 360 development? Only time will tell…

Interesting... Sony has made it quite difficult for developers.

At least for now it is more equitable for developers to learn how to code for the 360 because of the similarities in development tools for the PC. With that game companies can release titles on two different platforms with minimal effort.

With the PS3 you cannot just simply port games to or from like was done in the past due to its architecture. Sony's ambitious plans for the PS3 may make it go the way of the Betamax.

        Re: PS3 losing developer support?

Is Sony....losing?? Like I didn't see this one coming. Hey, da guy said he wants PS3 to be the system where you "work more hours" so you can have one in your house. Heck, I'd get it on the real if the whole pricing decreased a bunch. Oh, this is going to be so good.

Edit--You know what though, a lot of people are still going to buy it though. Oh snap, they were playing NFL 2K on CSI on SpikeTV. OH MY GOODNESS. THAT GAME LOOKS SO SWEET!! Still, Sony Playstation is a great name and many people who don't know are going to still purchase it. I sure do wonder though....

I don't think the PS3 is necessarily losing dev support, just that more games will be cross-platform and less exlcusives.

Or that. Seems more likely of course....

If this is the case then that's just as worse for the PS3 because the value of purchasing it will be lowered.

The way I look at it is if the 360 is just like developing for Windows, and 360 isn't all the much more powerful than a top of the line PC, then the PS3 may actually have games that are much more different in terms of AI, physics, and what not. We have yet to really see the PS3 in action. Everyone seems to be jumping off ship to the 360. But I see the 360 as a beefed up PC, but in 1 1/2 years I will be buying a new high end PC anyway.

This is all my opinion though.

                Thanks,

I hear your flow and honestly and can't agree with those words you're saying. Everyone thinks that the systems will all be totally different and crap. The PS3 will have the same type of output as the 360. Pricing is what everyone is basically focusing on. 360 is more powerful and can have more potential in the long run than PS3. Plus, there are more and more articles that are popping up talking about how difficult it is to develop for Sony. Sony is trying to milk their consumer base too since they're other sections aren't making the money like they should be. Hey, I'm definitely not knocking your opinion but you gotta do research for yourself. You'd definitely find what you need to in order to make a proper decision....

Since I haven't seen it asked and it wasn't said anywhere:

                      Who the hell is Kutaragi?
I mean what games has he made and the such?
