A 64 MB Video Card should carry Civ IV. 32 is just small, haha.

The wife just picked up the game for me. She got the special edition version. Was that the only one released today? She usually gets the cheapest one so I'm figuring this was the only version out today.

It came with a soundtrack cd, a Tech Tree and Spec Chart, keyboard overlay, 2 game disks and the game came in a decent box also.

sounds like you got lucky. people who preordered were only supposed to get the special edition one but who knows maybe thats all they shipped. I'm still waiting to play this game (its installing) but i had to make two runs to staples to upgrade my video card since i grabbed the wrong one on my 1st attempt. its a 256mb card so the game better work..

            Re: Civ IV

So far I'm loving it. I have went through the tutorials and started my first game. I've made peace with 2 other civilizations so far. I'm doing pretty well but I started my first game on the easy level until I get comfy with everything then I'll start a real one. Time has flown by since I started it. Finding a good spot to stop playing is hard as I keep wanting to do more and more. Great game so far. Have to get some sleep and I'll hit it hard again tomorrow.

Reminds me of the first time I played Civ 2. I got it for Christmas and played from 10pm until 5:00 am. I wasn't tired when I went to bed I was more like "oops dont' want my parents to wake up and see me still playing"

                Re: Civ IV

First time for me with a Civ game, first impressions are so-so. Have a 2.66 ghz p4 with 512 megs ram and fx 5200 128 mb card and the game runs like crap, even on the lowest settings. Because of that, it's hard to get into the game. Now normally I wouldn't care, but when my specs are double the minimum and it still runs like crap then I feel a little deceived by the system requirements. I have no idea why it runs so slow either--there's like nothing on the screen right now and it's still dragging. I'm guessing it's some sort of bug. As far as playing it, it's been ok so far, a little slow. Seems like you spend a ton of time just waiting for things to get built. I'll keep trying though.

Glad some of you are enjoying the game. its been a nightmare for me and i havent even started to play. I installed a new 256 mb video card and i cant get the game to work. it seems like the card is working fine but i keep getting a "failed to initialize renderer" error when i try to load the game...this sucks..i figured i'd be up this late playing the game and not trouble shooting. Such is the joy of gaming on a PC

Well hopefully tech support can help me tomorrow. my fingers are crossed

YES, things do take a long time to build in Civ games. But with your specs the game shouldn't chug. With Civ 3 (I have basically the same specs you do) ... late in the game it would sometimes take 2 or 3 minutes for the computer to finish their turns.

just my luck . I just got through to tech support and it turns out my video card (256 mb Radeon 9550 Stealth S120) seems to have a problem with the game and they are talking to the manufacturer to fix the problem. They said hopefully it will be rectified by the morning and to check back then

Oh well, i guess i can read the enormous manual to pass the time..

I've got a P4 3.0ghz, 1 gig ram with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. 256 Ram video card and it runs silky smooth.

You are a lucky one. It seems like there is a huge issue with the game and ATI RADEON cards. Theres a lot of people complaining of the same problem as mine over in the forums on civfanatics.com. just my luck that i upgrade my video card for this specific game and the game doesnt work with my card.

anybody have impressions that have played civ 2 or civ 3 also?
