BTW- For the record, things like this (Timberlake and celebs getting gift packages early) does not bother me one bit in the slightest, good for him/them I say.

EDIT: I basically wated to say everything Jimplication stated below my post, but was too lazy to type all that. Well said Jimp!

Re: Must be nice to be rich and get everything you want, Timberlake with his new Xbox 360

I disagree with most of the posts in this thread..

Katrina victims should not be given 360s, as they have other priorities and needs. I also fail to see how that is even a fair comparison, given the fact that if these celebrities don't get these 360's, there will not be more relief available to help those affected by hurricanes.

Furthermore, I don't really see the problem with celebrities getting advanced copies of the system. They may not be paying for it, but they are certainly promoting it by being in photos such as the one listed above. Why would Microsoft give the Average Joe a free 360, when they can instead give them away to people that are in the tabloids, news, and public view, every single day?

This is a great move by Microsoft, and it is nothing new. Celebrities always have, and will continue to be, a showcase for new products as a result of them using them and being in photograps with the said products.

Microsoft is a business. They want to make money, and by giving 360's away to people that aren't in the public/media's eye, they aren't helping themselves at all.

I see it as being a trade off.. Celebrities get the products for free, while Microsoft gets valuable promotion at no cost. The other side of that is that while it is free, celebrities still risk hurting their image if they choose to flaunt the wrong items (fur coats or products that are opposed by large organizations), and Microsoft can hurt their image by having their product promoted by celebrities that have a bad image, or gain one shortly after being seen with their product (Kobe's rape trial, for instance).

Given the fact that celebrities do have so much money, the issue of whether its free or not isn't an issue at all. Instead, it comes down to image, and how the celebrities and the company they are promoting end up being represented to the mass public and media.

Paris is probaly trying to find a part of the 360 that she can play with her-self, like the vibrating controller. It's amazing how someone that has no talent can be famous, b/c her parents own Hilton hotels. Microsoft should go to a poor income area and acution some off. Those people need it more then Justin Timberflake. If I was famous I would pay 1,000 dollars for this system and buy a couple for kids that are not fortunate to have one.

In addition to all of that, if I were a Katrina victim I'd want Microsoft to buy me a house with a refrigerator filled with groceries before a video game system. But that's just me...

The point some people are trying to make are these celebrities have most things that the average Joe can only dream about and now they get their hands on a 360 already. Most of us are dying for a 360 and we are ready to jump through flaming hoops to get one and these celebs practically have one waiting for them. That can get frustrating or annoying. Some of us don't even know yet how we are going to get one.

I don't think anyone is hating on them, hell, they work hard at what they do also, but I see some people's point of view here.

I can't blame them. Basically free advertisement for Microsoft.

Re: Must be nice to be rich and get everything you want, Timberlake with his new Xbox 360

Microsoft doesn't need the publicity. Thousands of people can't buy 360s due to the shortage, so why advertise a product you've already sold out of? The bottom line is the 360 and things like it are the best luxuries I get in life, whereas celebs can afford sports cars, luxury homes, etc. Now the haves get to take even more away from the average joe.

Besides, if it pisses people off, let 'em be pissed and vent a little. We know why Microsoft did it; we're not stupid. We're really not upset about the celebs as much as not being able to get a 360 ourselves. It's not a big deal, but sometimes you need to complain a little. So let us bitch in peace!

The more demand there is, the more they will sell when they are readily available.

Again, this works for both sides. It's free promotion for Microsoft and face time for celebrities.

And a company can never have enough positive publicity. By using celebrities, Microsoft is able to reach those that may not be "gamers" but are fans of Hollywood stars and their celebrity lives.

I'm going to flip the question, shouldn't all the Average Joes feel guilty they are buying 360's?

After all, they could take the money they have for the 360 and instead give it to the Red Cross to help the hurricane victims. People are selfish when they choose to buy a videogame system instead of helping people in need.

I'm guessing you gave until it hurt, which is very generous of you. Maybe you could sell your computer and give a little more. I gave, but not to the degree that I probably should have. I know I gave x amount to Red Cross and another check was sent to The Salvation Army. I think my wife also made a donation through work.

My main complaint with the celebs is serious gamers like myself not getting to get a 360 which we preordered months ago, and a dolt like Paris Hilton getting one. I'm sure she could care less.

And yes, this is the way of the world. The superintendent of my school district gets an extra $200/month to pay for his daughter's health insurance although his salary is 4 or 5 times what most teachers make. Do you think we get any help to pay for our childrens' health insurance?

Don't we pay taxes to support federal programs such as FEMA? Add to that all the Red Cross and other charities Americans donated to for Katrina.

Absolutely a resounding YES! It's called healthy Families, and if your that strapped for cash, look it up.

I seen someone put on this thread that the reason Microsfot is giving 360's to celbs is to start a trend, but everyone already wants one and personally I never bought something b/c a cleb has it, only b/c I want it for myself. People saying seeing a picture of a cleb makes people want it is crap. If I seen a pic of Bill gates or someone at M.S. giving a 360 to a foster home would make me have more respect for that company.
