    XBox 360 HDTV compatibility question

I have a 51-inch widescreen Sony HDTV. The instruction manual for the TV says that it supports 480. It also says that it doesn't support native 720.

So, my question is: Will I still be able to play XBox 360 games in HD format? Will my TV scale down 720 games to 480, allowing me to play the games in HD 480 format?

480p is not HD. The x360 will more than likely upscale the video to 1080i to your TV.

Thanks, fishepa. I am able to receive all of my cable system's HD channels with a crystal-clear picture, but I wasn't sure how that format worked with the 360. Even though I own an XBox, I never got around to purchasing HD cables.

So, if you don't have a HDTV with 720p, but it has 1080i...XBOX360 will take on 1080i? So 720p is not that important if you have 1080i?

I also have a question. I don't have a HDTV. I will not ever get HD Programming. My questions is, With either the PS3 or the XBOX360 If I buy a HD READY TV, Will The systems work in bringing a HD Image in gaming. Or do I need a HDTV built-in, or a extra HD BOX??????

You will be fine with an HD ready television, you don't need a tuner to play games in high def.

The 360 has a built in scaler that will scale to your televisions native resolution, whether it be 720p or 1080i.

So. If you have a HDTV and it gives you 1080i/720p...that is basically 2 different tv resolutions and you just pick 1 or the other? And in the case if you have a 1080i/480p...you would select 1080i as the resolution?

                  make sense?

Thanks Man. I will buy a new Tv then first. Then when the Ps3 comes out I will choose what console to get. Real quick. Could you recommend any tv's? I have a EC that will hold only a 27" ...I don't have much money to spend. Any help would be greatly appreciated

So will have to check off in the dashboard what we have or will the system automatically recognize it.

I would recommend a CRT based televison since you're putting it in a EC, for under 1,000 bucks it's the best high def picture you can get. Sony, Samsung and Panasonic make pretty decent television with some 26" models under $500. Try here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=64 Also measure your televison opening to see what will fit, a 27" with a 4x3 aspect ratio televison does not equate to 27" in a 16x9 aspect ratio televison.

The Xbox 360 will scale it to 1080i. Just makes sure you flip the switch on the 360 cables to HDTV, and turn it on in the dashboard.

So I should just put 480 an 1080 on in the dashboard?
