So basically, do I just plug my xbox 360 to the computer monitor and do the settings and everything should be alright correct? BUT the thing is, I was wondering if I could hook the red and white audio cables to my home stereo system instead of through the computer…so basically, I just want to use my lcd monitor just as a t.v.
Anyways, so could I assume that my lcd monitor will be the closest thing to gaming on an hdtv because my girlfriend pretty much claims that tv as hers and because I am a good boyrfriend (okay, I’m whipped!) I want another option close to hdtv because it looks UNREAL on hd, especially nba 2k6 I can see a huge difference. Fellas, a computer illiterate guy like myself need your help, cause I don’t want to drop money on something that will end up not working….losin’ money fast!!!!! Thanks for your help fellas.

Sure, you can hook the audio through your home audio system. That's what I do - the cable's pretty lengthy. I use my monitor, well... just as a monitor.

That cable's the best $40 you can spend on your Xbox, IMHO.

I agree that it is well worth a purchase. I even bought a vga switch box off ebay so I don't have to keep switching the cables from my monitor to my 360.

I picked up mine at Best Buy the day before launch!

Re: Has anyone tried the VGA adaptor for XBOX 360?

I have a 26" widescreen LCD HDTV that has both component and VGA inputs. The component cable works great, but I always wondered if things would look even better using the VGA cable, so I gave it a shot.

Unfortunately, the result was not what I hoped for. Using the VGA cable, the graphics look a bit washed out and not quite as vibrant and bright as the component cable makes it look.

When changing your display settings in the 360 for use with the VGA cable, you don't select 720p or 1080i per se. You simply opt for the appropriate screen resolution. For me, it's 1280 X 768 (also known as WXGA) which actually has an aspect ratio of 16:10.

I tried messing around with the picture settings of the TV (brightness, contrast, etc.), but just couldn't get it to look as good as the component cable makes it look.

Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but in the end, I returned the VGA cable, saved $40 and went back to what worked best (for me).

For the people who have it, can you tell me about how long the cord is?

            Thanks

I believe it's 8 feet. But it could be 6.

I'm not getting good results with the VGA adaptor. At 1024 x 768 I'm seeing a lot of aliasing I don't notice on my regular tv with s-video. At all higher resolutions I'm forced into the widescreen option, and everything on screen looks squashed and too tall. I have an RGB monitor and used the little connector which came in a bag. I don't know if I'm stuck playing in 640 x 480 or what the deal is, but thus far I wish I had saved my money. Not at all impressed.

I don't have one. But check to see what your monitors max resolution. And if you still don't like the results....Ebay it!

That's weird. All my games looks fantastic, however I'm playing on a 19" Samsung LCD. What kind of monitor are you using? If you playing PGR3 you need to set the resolution of the 360 to 1024 x 768. Everything else I play on 1240 x 1024 and it looks great.

I don't get the 1280 x 1024 option for some reason. My monitor is a Viewsonic 21 inch crt, and I play games on my pc at 1600 x 1200 all the time. I can't figure why I don't get that one option. At 1360 x 768 things look weird, but I did give 1024 x 768 another try and some games do look better. Perfect Dark looks much better. Madden looks about the same. PGR3 looks better but it plays in letterbox mode, so the screen ends up being kind of small.

I feel better about the purchase than I did at first. I suppose I was expecting too much. It's a shame that at the higher resolutions everything on screen looks distended and out of proportion, but 1024 x 768 is still a pretty good res. I'll keep it for future games, and maybe something will come about which allow me to set the system at 1280 x 1024; my monitor is certainly capable of it.
