Originally posted by KlockerI was referring to the point you stated saying that MS shorted game stores, when in fact game stores OVERsold their pre-orders well before MS told them how many they would be allotted. So, MS did not screw over us or the stores. That part, you just made up in your mind.
Microsoft Xbox 360 shortages are now being caused by a lack of chips.
Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer said, "in these new consumer electronics devices based on new chips, there's always the question of what yield will you get out of the manufacturing process of the new chip. We're getting a little less, but not much less than the yields we expected, and we know that the yields we expected will probably outrun supply. We decided to go ahead and launch rather than wait until post-Christmas and get a few million units out into the hands of users. We're doing our best."
Okay, so to weed through all of this "corporate mumbo-jumbo"
and "CEO-Talk", Microsoft is basically putting the blame on a lack of chips that are responsible for the Xbox 360 shortages, but we noticed how he stops short on saying, "delaying shipments."
If Microsoft knew they were expecting their "yields" to outrun supply, why did they ask the retailers to take so many pre-orders?
Will Microsoft wait until December 24 to admit that Xbox 360 shipments are delayed for Christmas? They are saying everything else on why there are shortages in supply. There are people waiting on the pre-order list since mid-November that have not received their new Xbox 360 yet.
Shortages will mean delays. Maybe it would be better if Microsoft just announces that a few shipping delays will cause some of the November pre-orders to be postponed until after Christmas. Or, would it be better just to announce that on December 24th?

This is from the article... i didn't say any of this. This came strictly from the gameshout.com website, who says that they pulled it off of a microsoft website. So please stop accusing me of making stuff up to just knock microsoft, thats not what i am doing. I am simply trying to let other gamers know why it is that they pre-ordered a 360, didn't get one on launch because not enough supply, and then why they probably won't get one before Christmas, again because of not enough supply.

Re: if anyone cares
I just can't wait for the PS3. I wouldn't call me a fanboy, because im not, but I like the library of games that PS3 will have. Most notably a baseball game that I prefer in MLB for SCEA. I would definatly be interested in the 360 as a 2nd system when the price drops. I'm sick and tired of all these "this system is better", "that system sucks" for our sake lets hope that al 3 next gen systems are a success and we can each play what we want. More options is better.Comment

I'm officially not going to get a 360 and get a PS3. I was all set on getting the 360, but this shortage has really changed my mind on things.Comment

Re: if anyone cares
I hope the ps3 is available this Spring, so I can compare it to the xbox 360 before I put my money down on one of the consoles. I mainly play sports games so I don't need both consoles. But I have a feeling that Sony is not going to be ready to lauch the ps3s this coming Spring.
The assumption is that the PS3 North American release won't happen until late 2006, 4-6 months after the Japan launch.
The CEO of Sony recently mentioned in an interview that “the company soon will unveil a line of compact, portable video devices to fill the time gap before PlayStation 3 launches in Japan in March and in the U.S. a year from now.”
For the rest of the story can be found at:
Also, here's an excerpt from Gamasutra on Dec. 9th, 2005... The full story can be found at:
---------------------------------------------
However, Sony's statement has, once again, not specified territories for the Spring debut. Many analysts still assume that the console will not be released in North America until autumn of 2006, with Electronic Arts CEO Larry Probst also suggesting a late 2006 Western release in public comments earlier in the month, according to Reuters.
Despite Microsoft's recent attempts to manage a global launch and Nintendo’s apparent interest in doing the same with the Revolution, Sony has never suggested it will doing anything similar.
The recent launch of the PSP, for example, was marked by a three month period from Japan to North America and a further six month period from North America to Europe. The pattern of a spring 2006 launch in Japan for the PlayStation 3, followed by a pre-Christmas 2006 debut in the West, though not confirmed, follows exactly the schedule used for the PlayStation 2.
Although Sony will be keen to launch as soon as possible, so as to not to give too much of an early advantage to the Xbox 360, the speed of manufacture of the console’s Cell chip and other proprietary processors is thought to be a limiting factor, as well as the readiness of the nascent Blu-Ray disc format. A spokesperson for the Blu-Ray format commented to Reuters: "When Blu-ray launches next spring, there will be both hardware and content", but did not specify the nature of the hardware."Last edited by bob70; 12-13-2005, 02:13 AM.Comment

As someone else here stated, Sony will release PS3 in spring, but in Japan, then they will roll out the PS3 here in Fall. That's my belief anyways because it makes the most sense of all scenarios.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Gameshout is going out of their way here to recklessly imply that the EB games shortage was due to MS telling them to pre-sell that many systems and then telling them "we can't make enough machines".
I'm saying that what Gameshout is implying here in their biased (and incorrect way... "Okay, so to weed through all of this "corporate mumbo-jumbo".... is wrong.
EB over sold. The article on MS's website says that they are hitting almost as many units as they planned. That does not explain why EB over sold by more than double. They oversold by more than double because EB was greedy and wanted to get as much money in as possible and hoped they received enough to cover the orders.
It was a pipe dream by EB, MS never promised them that many units and never expected to be able to fulfill that many orders by now.
that is where you are misunderstanding.Comment

Re: if anyone cares
again all i did was post the article, but whatever.
So you don't believe that microsoft is at fault in anyway?
I believe its the ps2 all over again. company hurries to get product on the market, has problems with machine and in ms's case with demand, and then tries to find anything and everyone it can as the scape goat.
I'm sorry.. I believe that microsoft's greed is the cause of this headache, no one elses. If microsoft didn't think that they would create a huge demand for the next-generation of consoles, then they need to go back to school and learn about business.
