    Nintendo DS?

Any DS owners out there who can help me with some questions? I'm intrigued by the system, but need some input. I've also never owned anything by Nintendo.

    1) I know I wouldn't use it for sports games, but what other games would you recommend? I'm curious about Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and Nintendogs. Are these games too much for kiddies?

    2) How does the stylus work if one is left-handed? Are there games requiring one to use both the stylus and the movement button on the left hand side of the machine?

    3) Is the machine fun to use in 15-30 minute time periods?

Any help or other info would be great.

1 - Mario Kart, Nintendogs, Metroid Prime Pinball, Trauma Center, Wario Ware, etc...there are many, many good games

2- I'm not left handed, sorry...

3- Yes, it's a great system for little spurts.

I had a DS and PSP. After a month, I went back to my DS. I eventually sold my PSP as the DS was everything I personally wanted from a hand held.

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow is incredible - the best handheld game to date. Like Extreme Gamer, I have both a DS and PSP. I haven't played my PSP in months but usually play teh DS twice a week. It has unique and original games whereas the PSP has more ports (with less features than consoles). Advanced Wars is also an awesome strategy game and the Narnia game is also well done.

Forgot all about Castlevania. It might be one of the top 5 hand held games of all time.

The DS is also online now with Animal Crossing, Tony Hawk, and of course Mario Kart.

I personally enjoy the DS a lot and so does my wife. She's a Nintendogs addict.

            Re: Nintendo DS?

I guess the wife question is another one to think about. I have a wife who likes games with simple controls. She played Pac-man when she was a kid so the fewer buttons to have to deal with the better from her point of view. For those of you who referenced your wives, how game-savvy would you say they are? It would be great if I could get my wife interested in my hobby to a greater degree with something like a DS.

Also, anyone on the stylus question? I don't want to have to try to use both the stylus and the controls on the left side of the DS at the same time. That would unfortunately take me back to the first Atari controller way back in the day where the button was on the left side. I hated that thing.

As far as I know, most games have left-handed options so you can switch. And as far as simplicity goes, there are several games that use only the stylus so its a pretty user friendly device.

My girl and I keep the DS and GBA in the bathroom drawer.

Comes in handy for those long, boring moments.

Hopefully I won't pick it up for these kind of long, boring moments. And I take it that you and your girl are the only ones who use these two devices? :-)

                    Re: Nintendo DS?

I initially thought it was a piece of junk and gimmick but when my partner started to play Wario and Nintendogs in the shops demo unit, she loved it and so did I.

I've owned real pets yet Nintendogs is still fun and addictive. She loves it and was blown away by the fact that the microphone can recognize your voice and you can teach your dog tricks through using it. Likewise with blowing into the screen/mic to blow a ballon or bubble toy for the dog.

I've recently got Animal Crossing and while I feared it would be too kiddish, I was wrong. It's really fun and you get hooked right away.

Mario 64 DS is probably the best game, regardless of whether you played it on N64. It's different in a few places, offers multiplayer (with just one game cartridge) and has awesome mini-games that use the touch screen and are very addictive. In fact, looking at Wario's game I think they could have released these Mario 64 mini-games seperately.

I played Tiger Woods and FIFA. Tiger's is pretty crappy but you can see potential there if they just get the controls down.
FIFA 06 is ok, better than I expected. Crappy AI lets it down, but again there is potential.
I'd like to see a retro NBA Live based on the SNES/Genesis version

I also have Zoo Keeper. Cool and simple puzzle game. And Mr Driller. Same.

I have to get Tony Hawk, Castlevania and Kirby...

So yeah, I love my DS. Not as much poly or texture power as the PSP but way better and more fun games for me. I take it on the train when I travel more than 30 minutes and it kills time better than anything else could and doesn't make me sick and nauseous like reading in a car/train does, hehe!

I hoping to get a DS for Christmas with the new Animal Crossing game. I still play the Gamecube one at least 3 times a week.

I might consider this DS system for my almost 10 year old niece instead of the "Pentop Computer". What good games are there for her age group besides Nintendo Dogs?

Seriously, besides Castlevania and Trauma Center, just about every other game is in her age group. The system is fun for all ages, but kids love this thing.

I was thinking about buying a DS for my wife also. She loved Animal Crossing when we had the Cube, and now that Bust A Move is on here and Mario Kart, my wife would be in heaven.

Does Animal Crossing, Bust A Move, and Mario Kart use the stylus for play. I feel like that thing might be too much of a pain.

Does the DS also play GBA games on it?

I have a PSP also, and I just love that system for what it could do.
