    Re: Dead or Alive 4?

Question for everyone who has had this game and has played it for over a week...(also for the people who aren't big fighting game fans like me).

How's the replay value in this game? Is the difficulty challenging but fair? And last but not least did this game get old at all for anyone after 1 or 2 weeks?

BTW, good impressions guys...this thread has really swayed me into getting this game most likely.

This is the worst review: http://www.insidepulse.com/articles/45682 (quick translation..... it's too hard with anyone but Ayane cause she's the only person I can use because I don't want to learn how to play and I can't play with my friend in tag battle against the AI cause they suck more than I do so I'm not gonna play anymore)

This is the best review: http://www.ztgamedomain.com/?rid=1395 (quick translation.....stop reading this and go buy it)

I'm still playing it but I like fighting games and don't find it too difficult.

Prime example of why you should take ANY review you read with a grain of salt.

Bottom line - Play it yourself. If you like it, keep it. If not, don't.

Good idea...I think i'll rent it first and see if I like it (and no the insidepulse review didn't change my mind about the game at all).

Is there a demo of this game on live marketplace or any game magazines?

DOA has never been known for it's challenge, so it's expected people aren't going to all like it. A good amount of people buy the series instead of Virtua Fighter for the laid back play and feel, so Tecmo made an interesting move in this installment.

I obviously love VF games too(where my name on here came from) so maybe that's why this game isn't so hard for me.

For those having trouble here's a good strat guide from 1up.com that should help you get better: http://1up.com/do/feature?cId=3147164&did=1

What is the offline multiplayer like? Does it allow up to 4 players to fight against each other? Or are there 2 on 2 fights? Thanks in advance...

The box says it's 4 players but I only got 2 controllers so I wouldn't know if it's right or not.

yes you can play with 4 players offline. most likely would be a 4 way tag team with two on each team.

next countering. doa4 has a 4 point counter system. high punches and kicks need to be countered with 7+x where 7 it the direction that you need to press when facing right and x is the free button. low puches and kicks need to be countered with 1+x. the thing that is a little tricky is the mids. mid punches need to be countered with 4+f and mid kicks need to be countered with 6+f. another thing to note is most jump kicks need to be countered mid, which means 6+f, and most jumping punches need to be countered 4+f.

you will do very well to train yourself to counter mid kicks with forward or 6 and free. it will immediately boost your game because this is what most people do to scrubs because it is counter intuitive, and they would never counter it. they only way to become better at countering is to one, get good at guessing what the opponent will throw out and two, recognizing strings. recognizing strings is more easy to do, just go to sparring and do everyones exercise. guessing what your opponent will throw out takes you knowing your opponent and adapting to their style.

another thing is a person mentioned critical stuns. there are a couple ways to get out of those, one is to guess correct and counter their next strike, second is to slow escape, you do a slow escape by mashing the buttons and directions. you will recover faster. hold the f button to recover blocking. and the third way is to do a low counter. this is what most people are doing right now. it has a couple advantages. first, it will obviously catch any low punch or kick they throw, second, if they go high, the attack will miss and you can counter attack, and third it slows them down from stopping their strings and throwing you while you are trying to mid or high counter. the drawbacks are that it leaves you open to mids and low throws.

someone else asked about the longevity/replay value of the game. let me just say that doau on the xbox was the only game that i was still playing a year after its release and i had over 50 of them. and doa4 on the xbox360 is an evolution of that game, and since it came out on dec 28 or 29, there has not been two days that have past where i did not play this game for at least and hour. i already have over 100 hours logged. got the acheivement to prove. now ask me when was the last time or how much time i spent playing pd0, pgr3, thaw, q4, nba2k6, or rr6. the answer would most likely be, i dont know and not much.

but that just means i am a doa head, and i know it. you may not be, so trying for yourself is definately the best way to go.

doa has great longevity. i'm still a medicore player, but i'm having a ton of fun with it.

I rented it and beat the story mode and got Spartan, but how do I do some of the other achievement stuff like unlocking all the costumes and the Time Trial stuff? I'm a DOA noob.

That is pretty obvious isn't it?
Get the get all costumes achivement by getting all the costumes, not that hard to figure out.

Time attack just play through it and if you do good enough you get a trophy that'll be bronze, silver or gold.

Nope it wasn't obvious. Being that I've never played DOA before, I was just wondering. What other modes do you unlock the costumes with? Remember, I'm playing with no manual and no box, the game came from Gamefly. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
