Finally getting my 360 this week.

I am now #3 at EB for pre-orderd 360 and should be receiving it early this week. Is there anyway to know if I get handed one with issues by the serial number or something? Such as the overheating crap thing thats goin on. Also do you guys recommend I go buy seperate DVD player or should I just use the 360?

The issues aren't nearly as severe as people make you think.

I heard last night from a friend, that his friend had his melt on him. He said he played it for 8 hours and the processor melted. Does that sound right or is this a lie? He also said the guy left it in the little cubbie hole of his entertainment center.

That's BS. The processor can't melt. The 360 doesn't get hot enough to melt metal regardless of whether it's in a tight area with no ventilation or a wide open area with a lot of ventilation. I can't recall the temperature that causes metal to melt, but the 360 doesn't even come close.

People are just making things up for some dumb reason.

I can assure anyone that if someone tells you that their 360 melted in any way, they're full of it.

EDIT - Personally I'd use a seperate DVD player. Not that the 360 DVD player is bad, but that I think a seperate player will have more features.

You should ask him for a picture and see what he gives you. I've never heard of a processor melting before.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I doubt it really melted, but Ive heard that it does have heating problems, there was an article someone posted that pointed out the flaws of the 360 and it was one of the first ones mentioned. But if you play it for 8 hours straight, its probably gonna overheat. Sort of related, but a friend of mine on his Xbox thought it would be fine if he just left it on all the time for about 2 months straight so he had never had to log off Xbox live, so when his Xbox was fried, he was wondering why, its pretty obvious. Some people just dont use common sense all the time with these things. Just play for a few hours, turn it off for a while and let itd cool and your fine Id say.

I doubt that the processor melted. The 360 doesn't get that hot.

But I wouldn't put the console into a little cubbie or small confined area. I would sit it out in a well ventilated open area so that it doesn't overheat itself.
