Why would any company cater to the hardcore crowd if they make up the minority of the paying customers? It's a bad business strategy.

I dont think nobody has ever proved its bad business. Show me one company who as ever catered to the more hardcore crowd? The thing is that every company is tryna accomplish gathering new customers with each iteration. With that comes these new ideas and features that in turn creates more problems than fix the issues from the previous year. So in the end, we're the ones who get the shaft when we're the ones who are more loyal and dedicated to the sport and games than some casual stud who simply wants a basketball game.

Its my believe that if a company catered to the hardcore crowd(kinda like 2K does) then you'll actually create more hardcore fans. The thing is EA wins in sales for having better gimmicks, better marketing and drop a sub-par game despite the now fact, that 2K makes better sports games. If the hardcore group is considered the minority, then what would you call the ppl who prefer 2K games over EA? Are we all the minority?

Because the hardcore are the ones lining up at midnite releases to buy their games at launch.

You just helped prove my point. Of course you won't find companies that cater to the hardcore crowd when they're in the minority. As a business why would you cater to the crowd that doesn't bring in anywhere close to the revenue that the casual crowd brings in? Because it doesn't make any financial sense.

I wouldn't come out and say everybody who prefer 2K games over EA games to be a hardcore gamer. Hardcore gamers are most likely the one's that visit IGN on a daily basis and probably voted in the IGN poll.

To bring in a sports example, I'll use the Superbowl. I'm a hardcore football fan and would prefer the halftime show to be dedicated to analysis but instead I get to witness MTV garbage (at least in the past)/Rolling Stones. In this case the NFL is catering to the casual viewer because it represents a greater chance to bring in viewers. They already know hardcore football fans will tune in to watch the football itself.

Most of them are also the ones that put a pre-order down 4+ months before a game even comes out. They buy the magazines, get the behind the scenes for most of the sites, they buy th extras. They get into the games. They are the video game industry on which entertainment rides.......

The way Bret played this season...They SHOULD have traded him for Peyton Manning!

Why can't people understand that the game is merely supposed to SIMULATE a NFL league. If the GAME made all the same trades that were made in real life, then it wouldn't be a GAME. It would be some sort of weird possessed DEVIL DISK that we were ALL trying to get rid of or destroy!

As long as the trades make RELATIVE since the game is Fine!

Now if Bret Farve was traded for a 4th round pick, THEN I would be worried!

No NFL GM would trade Peyton Manning for Brett Farve. Anytime you can't use a feature something is wrong..

My point is "why would'nt you"? We're the ones that these companies should be tryna sell the games to. Instead they are tryna reach ppl who are'nt interested in the sport to begin with. They're only interest, or shall I say EA's only interest is reaching the poketbooks of the average gamer since they know the real sports fans and gamers will buy the product anyway. Especially now since they are the only company in town. I believe 2K looks out more for the hardcore crowd and this poll is the proff.

I think the current backlash with EA stems from the buyout of licences. It was shadey no matter which side of the fence you're on. If they left the NFL alone, I believe they would'nt be in the situation they're in. They knocked off NFL 2K because they knew that they could'nt possibly catchup for the next-gen. Look at Live and NBA 2K6. NFL 2K would of absolutely beat Madden for the next gen if it was still around. EA knew that so they did what was necessary.

doesn't the same hold true for 2k buying the rights of the mlb license so that no other 3rd party developer (EA) could make baseball games?

lets face it, 2k and baseball don't mix

Come on, you know that was a move made by 2K just to get back at EA. 2K baseball is'nt all to bad(gameplay wise), its just glitchy and buggy than a sombitch.

its a move that is keeping me from playing the next installment of a mvp pro baseball game.

better hope that 2k isn't all to bad since its the only pro baseball game that xbox users will get to play. at least new installment.

look EA saw an opportunity to grab the football market and did. 2K could have done the same but either didn't try or wasn't granted by the NFL. Instead of placing all the blame on EA, why not blame the NFL. They could have said no like the NBA and NHL did. 2k can also make college football games but aren't how come? Because they had trouble topping EA. Look NFL2K is/was a great game, but it never outsold Madden.

One last thing, all the people saying that Madden doesn't cater to the hardcore gamer, then how come Madden/EA was the first game to ever have an in depth franchise mode and owner mode. And as far as them making a game specifically for hardcore gamers is not a good idea. What about the young kids that want to play a football game. EA shouldn't market their game to them? EA/Madden covers the board. Owner mode for hardcore gamers, NFL superstar mode for casual gamers.

I've been down this road one to many times. I'm not gonna even go there. Just look up any of my post in the Madden forum if you really want my thoughts on it.

One last thing, all the people saying that Madden doesn't cater to the hardcore gamer, then how come Madden/EA was the first game to ever have an in depth franchise mode and owner mode. For the young kids that wanna play football, EA makes NFL Street. Tell all the toddlers to pick that game up if they want some pigskin action. I dont wanna see a real NFL fan have Street and Madden in the same house. One should be the sim for the hardcore and the other should be for the "kids".

And dont start with franchise and owners mode. Madden was'nt the first game to ever have a franchise mode and Owners mode was a cheap gimmick based off their text sims. But first and foremost, they dont cater to the hardcore where it counts, and thats on the field gameplay. If you think truck stick and hit stick was for the hardcore, more power to you.

Good one....but I think 2Ks entire running model was complex. The power meter just added to the complexity. I may have been a gimmick but the way it was implemented made sure that it was impossible to abuse.
