Did Kmart give me an Xbox 360 for free?

Here's my deal, I ordered my 360 on Dec. 20 and I received it on the 30th of the same month. As of today, they still haven't charged me for it. I bought it with my debit card so I went to the bank to see whats up. The banker told me the transaction went through but the merchant(Kmart) has deducted the money from my account. Do you guys think I got away with a free Xbox 360 too, or will they charge me eventually? In total, its almost been a month since the order was shipped.

Celebrate baby I think you just got yourself a free 360! I had a situtaion years ago where I paid $250 on a credit card bill and the credit card company added another zero to my payment so it showed I paid them $2,500 instead of $250, they never caught it.

With the merger of Sears and Kmart and seeing how dumb Kmart really is I wouldn't be surprised they gave you a free 360. Just to be on the safe side, you could change your debit card number.

I would call and clear it up with them. Honesty will take you alot further than a free 360. If you atleast call them, chances are they will just say "our mistake" and let you know you get the 360 on them, or let you know that the charges are on the way to your account.

If he changes his account and they try to take out the money later than they might hassle him later on for it. Not enough funds.

Nope a debit purchase is different than a credit purchase. Debit purchases require a PIN number and is treated sort of like a cash transaction. Now if they rang up the item by scanning his debt card and he signed the ticket then it's considered a credit purchase. If he entered his PIN number to purchase the 360 then it's to his advantage. That's why debit purchases show up the following day, whereas a credit purchase takes several days to post to your account.

If they credited his account after the initial purchase then technically if he were to close his account and reopen another one they, i.e. Kmart would be out the money. Personally I hope he gets it for free cause i've never been a fan of the 1 checkout lane Kmarts. Hopefully Sears can fix that mess.

Yep and in the end we the consumer will pay as something else will now be marked up to cover the loss. It is always better to step up and be honest instead of it coming back and biting you in the arse!

Well that reminds me of a story.

A few years ago I bought a Treo 600 online from Verizon. It was faulty so I called them up and had them send me a new one. They did, and I packaged up the faulty one and sent it back to them. Somehow, the two departments don't work hand in hand because they just thought I was returning the phone. They ended up crediting my account 600+ dollars. I sent them two emails stating the error, but it never was cleared up or charged back to my credit card. Oh well...I gave it a good try. They obviously were too busy to deal with me. I just made 600 bucks, and I had a clear head at the same time.
