I would venture to say PS2 sold near 10 mil worldwide, and probably close to 4 mil first year in the US.

I didn't think they sold 4 mil in the US their first full year out. That's pretty damn good.

Mine has worked fine since day 1... never had a problem with it. Luckily I've never had a problem with any of the systems I own.

"Yeah and people replace their PS2 sometimes (but when you call Sony they fix your PS2 or send you a replacement for free..)."

Not any of the 3 times I've had to call to find out what the **** was wrong with it. All 3 times they told me I had to pay to send it in,pay to have it sent back and then pay $150-220 for repairs. Maybe it's differnt in the US but that's not how it was for me. I'm on my 4th or 5th,made it so I only actually had to pay for 2 though.

That's a flat out lie or he knows the Sony President because I worked for Sony Tech support in Florida and your personal experience is what i'm familiar with. Rarely ever are things given away at Sony!

When I sent mine in over a year ago, they said they'll fix it for free but I had to pay the S&H. I think they sent me the same system, just fixed. I have no clue about replacements.

I got mine replaced for free. I just voiced how pissed I was because it broke due to no fault of my own well after the warranty had expired and threatened to switch to Xbox. I also threw in a sad story about how I was a loyal Playstation consumer since day 1 and was one of the many who slept outside a store to get a PS2 on launch.

I just told them it did'nt read disc anymore. They asked for my serial number and said send it in. Simple as that.

Yeah, if you opened the system and voided the warranty, they'd make you pay. But if not, then they'd fix it for free. Someone even put up a FAQ on gamefaqs that tells you how to get in contact with a Sony rep or whatever, and get your system sent off.

Initially they wanted me to pay for repairs and I balked, and they decided to pay it for me. Actually, I sent the system in and they were unable to fix it so they just replaced it. It had a weird problem that prevented it from reading PS2 Memory Cards in slot 1. I've had no problems since, and this was almost a year to the day after the PS2 launched.
