This article makes me wonder why the price of games went up for 360?"Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for) -
Re: 360 DVDs big enough?
Originally posted by freezeframeThe article is a bit skewed as they fail to mention about the space needed for HD Quality cutscenes and animations. WMV-9, and MPEG-2 encoded material needs lots of space. They also fail to mention or talk about High Definition Material and what type of space is needed. True High Definition gaming which means uncompressed or minimal compressed material can not be realized on a standard DVD for obvious space reasons. As a general rule the more compression the less quality the image is going to be whether it be for video or in game animation. Sooner or later the 360 is going to have to cut corners due to lack of disk space. Tecmo will tell you how important space can be as they have already nearly ran out of room with Ninja Gaiden and the latest DOA pushing beyond 6 gigs (which the article failed to mention) Imagine if the game had True High Definition cutscenes.
More space is needed for movies NOT video games. Even high definition games can be compressed to fit on a DVD-9 so it is not an issue. There is technology that may greatly increase the storage capacity of DVDs in the not too distant future. The image quality reduction from compression will not be noticeable to most people.Comment

Re: 360 DVDs big enough?
Throw this article out.
Editor's Note: This article was originally published with the claim that Xbox titles grew in filesize by 56% between 2001 and 2005. This was a miscalculation on our part, as the actual growth was 77%. We apologize for the mistake, and offer thanks to our readers that were kind enough to point out our error. The data the percentage was based on is still accurate. We admit that this weakens the premise of the article, but it is also only part of the author's reasoning. Please read the article and draw your own conclusions.
Anyways, you can only really compare disc sizes and game sizes, if you understand the breakdown of the discs content, and that's going to be hard to get real figures on.
Only then can you understand the potential compromises that might have to be made.Last edited by Flawless; 01-22-2006, 05:31 PM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: 360 DVDs big enough?
The gaming industry felt that new releases were underpriced for some time...the release of a next-gen console was the trigger for the increase.Get used to it as all major next-gen releases will be 60 bucks and a few, like GTA on PS3, will probably be 70.
The casual gamer(read:about 90 percent of the market)won't even remember what the Microsoft console is named once the PS3 ships.Like Kleenex, and Xerox,Playstation is synonymous with gaming for the great unwashed and will absolutely crush when released.PS3/PS4 BradCompanyComment
