360 Extended Warranty
I've always believed warranties are a waste of money and in the long run, it is better to take your chances then spending all that money. It seems if you have a problem, it should surface in the first 90 days. I'm curious how many 360 owners purchased the extended warranty? I believe it says you have 10 days from purchase to send it in.Tags: None -

Re: 360 Extended Warranty
Again, as I have stated numerous times, get the 3 year MS warrenty for 65 bucks. For roughly the cost of one game you'll have peace of mind for 3 years. It covers everything from the console, controllers, and free shipping as well. Very much worth IMO.How I wish, how I wish you were here. Re: 360 Extended Warranty
I got the Best Buy 2-year deal for $50 or whatever. My rationale was that considering the spotty durability record of the 360 I just didn't want to risk being in a position where I would either have to purchase a new console in time or spend some sum of money $50 or greater on repair fees.
I think the only other time I've gotten an extended warranty on anything electronic was with my laptop and that ended up paying off since I like to move it around a bit and as a result I seem to go through a hard drive every few months. Dell is in the hole quite a bit on that warranty.Comment

Re: 360 Extended Warranty
Without a doubt this is something that gets me angered with so called big companies.
My brother bought and dropped top dollar on the PS2 when it first came out. Not even a year old the thing was having trouble reading the disks. He called Sony and they wanted him to send it back to the company so they could fix it. He ended up paying 3/4 of what he had paid for the system in the first place. And he didn't have anything to play in the meantime. All because Sony used "cheap laser eyes" in the development of their system. Then that system lasted two years and it started up with the same thing again. He wasn't about to do what he had done before so he bought a new system. They were cheaper by now. Since he's gone through 4 PS2's.
I went and got the xbox when it first came out. And within a year or so my system wouldn't read the disks either. So, I called Microsoft and they wanted me to send it back to the company so they could fix it. I remeber what hapened to my brother and what he paid. And I remember reading on these boards that Microsoft used cheap Thompson driver's in the production of the new systems. So I told the lady on the phone that she should fix it for free b/c it was Microsoft's fault for making faulty machine's. I wasn't going to pay for Microsoft's cheap product mess-up. I wasn't about to drop another $300.00, or pay close to that to have the company fix it.So one Christmas I took the system up to EB when they were running a sale. I traded in my system and got a new one with the new driver's in it. Since the release of the 360 I've gone through 3 xbox's.
Now from what we both went through above, and the price of the systems nowadays, I got a warranty on this system. I don't have that kind of coin to be dropping $400-450.00 on a system when it breaks. My brother and I ALWAYS took care of everything game related. No scratches on the disks, no slamming of the joysticks, no dropping of the systems. When always had our stuff in plastic bubbles, and we would go over our friends houses and there would be their game systems with the cover off, people spilling 40oz. in the system, joysticks got one button that works, and there is all the wires exposed on the controller, and the system is being used as a coffee table leg for balance. Hell, but their systems always worked. While ours always was down.
With the 360 all the games and accessories are $10.00 more than the xbox. If you want a HD, that's going to run you and extra $100.00. And in reading magazines and forums and listening to people slightly push you down the HDTV path. We all know how much those things cost? So I got a one year warranty from EB games and it ran me $40.00. And it runs for a year. EB wouldn't go anymore than the year. They also said they would give me a new 360 with no questions asked. We will see b/c around Nov. when I got the 360 I'm taking my 360 back to EB and getting a brand new system. And then I'm going to ask for another $40.00 warranty with the new system. I'll do that every year till something else comes along. I also feel better know that my system is covered from what happened above. Maybe by then the getting hot problem will be solved, eventhough I have not had any trouble with mine as of yet.Comment

With that said, I purchased the 2 year service contract from MS and I gladly handed over the $50.00 for it. Peice of mind is worth that money.Comment
