Gamespot: 2006 NOT the year of Halo 3?

Ok, I am huge Halo player. This would be one of the deciding factors in buying a 360 for so many people out there, including myself. We know the 360 isn't selling well in Japan, which hurts MS because Sony will likely sell more units there than anywhere else. So does MS need Halo 3 ASAP?

I just wanted to know what others have to say about this because it's more than just a game in the eyes of Microsoft and Sony, it's really the only thing to counter the PS3. Bill Gates was quoted in Time magazine saying Halo 3 would launch the same day as the PS3 and then later having to take back his word and say it would release when Bungie feels it is right.

With that said, do you guys think it's better for MS to counter the PS3 at launch or to make sure Halo 3 will be as solid, if not better, than Halo:CE was and use that to bait and hook consumers after the PS3 launch? I think it's safe to say that Halo 3 is the most anticipated game in the world right now.

I don't think it's safe to say that Halo 3 is the most anticipated. For me personally, after the first two Halos, I'm all Halo'd out. I'm more in anticipation of how the gaming industry plans to take advantage of multi-core/multi-threaded architectures--specifically in sports games. Which is why I don't have any immediate plans to buy a next-gen console.

Halo 3 isn't going to help move any consoles in Japan, so no, they do not need it ASAP. And Halo 3 coming out on PS3 launch day isn't going to keep people who have already made up their mind on the PS3 from buying it. It's a nice thought by Mr Gates, but no one is going to go to the store looking to buy a PS3, see Halo 3 and say, "What am I doing? I should just get this!" If anything, its just going to make video game/electronic stores all the more busy the day of the launch as people will be coming in for their PS3 and their Halo.

I rather wait and get a awesome Halo game as we are expected to see than get a rushed crap version.

Yes, I agree. The greater the product, the better. I think the quality of Halo 3 will either make or break the 360. Although, just by association, the word "Halo" will sell systems.

I'm pretty excited to see what Bungie can do with the power of the 360.

I always expected this. Microsoft will ship Halo 3 around the time the movie comes out.

And they don't need Halo this year; not with the hype Gears of War has garnered.

I'm gonna say it, I don't really care about Halo 3...I did not buy a 360 so I could play Halo 3, and Halo 2 I played a ton online for 2 weeks and then got bored...that's just me though

Yea I love Halo to but it's not going to make or break the system. Plus I would rather them not rush Halo 3 so they can get sales, but let it take as longs as it needs and be a great game.

Sadly I wouldn't be suprised if this gets pushed back all the way to November 07. Remember how many times Halo 2 got postponed? Or maybe I'm thinking of another game.

Excellent post. We're shelling out mortgage payments for gaming consoles that only give us better graphics. Games haven't changed for 10 years now. They're all the same.
And sports games? Only the graphics and some dynasty options have been upgraded. As far as gameplay, very few titles have made leaps and bounds with the upgrade in hardware.

Being a hockey junkie if either Kush or EA could develop a game that played just like the NHL using the next gen technology then I might consider buying it. But I'm not going to shell out $500+ for more FPS's or rehashed sports games.

Steve posted this link in his morning segment today. It seems Halo 3 is indeed done and waiting to be published. Looks like MS will have something to stick Sony with afterall. But will it be enough?

We’ve received news today from an industry insider who claims that Halo 3 is finished and sitting at the mastering plant, awaiting the word to go.
