If Halo 3 is done, which I doubt, I hope it's completely polished and bug-free. It'd be a waste to just sit on it for months, when it could be improved. I agree with the idea that Gears of War will be Microsoft's big first-party release, this year. Halo 3 will come next year.

Why do people and/or Microsoft think that Halo or Gears of War, or any other single game is going to stop someone from buying a PS3? I would really like to know what the reasoning/answer is.

Umm...cause its a system seller. If EA neglected to make games on 1 of the 2 next-gen consoles, that would narrow alot of ppls choices down. You must have no clue on how large Halo is in the states. If it was'nt a game that would convince potential PS3 owners to switch, MS or anyone would'nt be talking about doing so.

I understand how big Halo is, I've played it.

I just don't understand that if someone already has a 360, and is planning on getting a PS3, why would they not pick up a PS3 just because Halo released the same day? Wouldn't they just get both?

I don't think that a single game will keep people from purchasing a new console. Its just a bad marketing tactic IMO

You just listed a single scenario. Think about those who are on the fence or the ones who can only afford one console or the ones who need a quality game to justify a system purchase. Would you rather own a 360 with Halo(and other quality games will be out as well) or would you rather pick up a PS3 with a bunch of crappy launch titles? Think about the tactic before you dismiss it.

To tell the truth, I understand why Halo is popular but I wont lose sleep if it gets pushed back to next year. Its not my most anticipated title but to alot of ppl, it is. You'd be suprised how one single game can move units off the shelves.

If you can afford both, thats great. Unfortunatly not everyone will be able to do that. The choice of which console to get is up to you and the games are sopposed to be the deal breakers.

I like how you said that the PS3 will have crappy launch titles, but thats another topic.

I would think that most people would know about Halo before they go to pick up a PS3. I think that Microsoft is crazy for thinking that they will stop someone from purchasing a PS3.

I also think its sad that someone would buy a system just for one game

As for the launch titles, history has shown us that launch titles usually suck. I'm mad because when I pick up an 360 next week, I gotta select from a craptacular list of games.

Hype can cause a consumer to anything. If Halo is hyped up enough, it can defitnitely change some minds. It may not change yours but there are ppl who are banking on having a quality title when they pick up a system. PS3 may have one, it may not. People dont like to miss out or be left behind on games so there should be plenty of ppl would ditch a PS3 for an XBOX. I dont think the tactic is crazy but its unproven. MS could eventually fall flat on their faces and Halo wont sell at all because of the PS3 launch. No one knows how it will go down. It makes sense to me though.

almost forgot, I think that Microsoft has a decent launch lineup.

Not to me. I was interested in Perfect Dark but it turned out garbage. Condemed is to short(not worth 60 bones) I already have NBA 2K6 on the XBOX and Call of Duty is the only game that I may get(and I dont even care about that one)

I'm getting the 360 strictly for Oblivion. See, one game can sell a system.

Releasing a big 360 exclusive at the PS3 launch is just a means of grabbing some of the spotlight away from Sony. It won't stop people from wanting a PS3, but it helps keep a good buzz going for the 360.

IDK, I wouldn't release Halo 3 on the same day as the PS3. People only have so many dollars to spend on video games and if they are going to drop 500 on a new system...I doubt they are going to drop 60 for a game on another system. I think they would be better served releasing Halo 3 like 3-4 weeks before the PS3 comes out. That way when people go out and buy it they will like it and will take the hype away from the PS3 and less people will buy the ps3 because they are all addicted to Halo 3. I think if MS does do something on PS3 launch day...they should drop the price of the xbox360.

I don't think this is so someone walks into the store and has a choice between PS3/Halo...because yeah...if someone walks into a store to buy a ps3...they're not gonna see halo3 and be like "oh! I want that instead" but...

It's so that right now, when people are budgeting their money...they can buy a very good system and an incredibly popular/hyped game for under 500...or a single system for 500
