    Re: Lost Planet (Xbox 360)

Our local xbox360 mag (in Australia) gave it a 8/10. They said it was a good game if you took it for what it was ment to be ie a frantic shoot em up with nice explosions. They said it's no GOW but it does provide a nice single player experience but it could have been better and they didn't fully utilise some of the ideas (like the grapple thingy).

I think it'll be a rental for me.......

Gametrailers has a preview up, looking as good as ever!
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Lost Planet is a great game that suffers from a few bad design decisions. The graphics are excellent by any standard with only v-synching issues preventing them from looking truly amazing. The enemy design and amount of action they deliver makes for great gameplay that is hampered by control mechanics that get in the way of the experience. Add in a stumbling story and you have a game that doesn't quite reach the levels of some of the more outstanding titles we've seen in recent months. The bottom line, though, is that the game is a lot of fun and that's all that really matters, isn't it?

          Another Take
          from Hilary Goldstein

There is no doubt that Lost Planet has some incredible moments. Several times during the course of the ten-hour single-player campaign, I found myself picking my jaw off the floor having witnessed the entrance of an imposing and grotesque new boss. Few gaming experiences can compare to the exhilaration of a rocket zipping past your head, trailing a gorgeous plume of black smoke. But for every moment of awe and wonder in Lost Planet, there are equal moments of frustration.
Just as I'm finished "ooing" and "awing" at the cool smoke effects, I am forced to crawl through what amounts to an alien **** or take pot shots at a menacing mutated penis. The shrill cry of dying Akrid are soon drowned out by my own screams as I watch my character knocked about by repeated explosions, unable to do anything to cancel a cheap series of attacks. Or, worst of all, I'm faced with another convoluted cut-scene introducing yet another character and plot twist that sends the story spiraling further into the depths of obscurity.

Lost Planet was just a handful of design decisions away from being one of Capcom's best games. But these design choices (not bugs, not oversights, but choices) mar what is an overall brilliant experience. Lost Planet's unparalleled awesomeness is tempered by its own self-imposed limitations.

Should you buy Lost Planet? Hell yes. Though it may be flawed, this is the perfect way to begin the New Year.

                Re: Lost Planet (Xbox 360)

Not to be negative, but after GOW, COD 3, and R6 Vegas, I can't justify getting another game when I barely have enough time for the three. Especially when it appears LP will be the weakest of the elite bunch. Going to wait for a dead time in gaming and get it then.

I think this game comes out this week. I'm on the fence with this one, so I'd love to see some impressions.

I started playing Dead Rising again last night and I forgot how awesome that game was, so I have some faith that Capcom can do it again, but Gears of War has set the bar pretty high for me in the shooter genre.

Why do cases do that? $70 for that? And it can't even have 2 disc trays? laughable.

Even TV box sets are starting to double up 2 discs on one flap of the case. Really annoying if you ask me. LOL!
