    Re: Xbox 360 Intercooler

Oblivion is not locking up anymore since I bought the intercooler. That's enough of a reason for me

Okay, so does this intercooler work?

I just had 2 straight freezes playing two consecutive halves, UCF against Troy and it's gettin on my damn nerves. If we had an in-game save it wouldn't be a big deal, but I digress. To anyone that bought the intercooler, has it solved freezing problems with this game specifically?

Re: Okay, so does this intercooler work?

        Usually freezing isnt consistent with overheating. Things that work for me;

        - Load/Save user profiles for games from Memory Cards instead of HDD
        - Clear HD cache and unused memory files

The intercooler I have as well and it does seem to "smooth" the performance though.

MAKE SURE you power that thing off when done playing...if not it seems to stop working until you let it sit off the console for awhile. (at least for me)

Re: Okay, so does this intercooler work?

It does a good job of keeping game disk cool and the system cool in general.Im work at a game store and when my first 360 died i got a new system new hard drive(came with ultimate)and pulled all my game saves and got all new game disk.Well i still get freezes and my honest opinion is that it has to be the hard drive. At least with my system.Only games that froze were 2k games(oblivion, nba, ncaa 2k)I actually got a freeze after i changed the way my buttons were mapped in the 360 ncaa 2007 today.

I think it's like a computer you will have to refor your hard drive and start over with games and let go of all the other (old game saves) or they will carry over. But back to the question yeah it does a great job for 20 bucks not a bad buy imo.

Re: Okay, so does this intercooler work?

              Clear Cache
              - Insert Game
              - Power OFF console with game inside (DONT MOVE IT)
              - Power ON console , with game inside, and hold "A" button through white 360 symbol screen. (When you see game screen, stop pressing)
*This is a technique that worked primarily with Oblivion to slow the "choppy" screens. Some say its legit. I do it anyway. No freezing here.

*Theres a way to do it through dashboard too..dont remember.

              Clear Unused Memory
              - Go into Dashboard
              - Then to System<system> tab
              - Click Memory <memory>
              - Page through it for unused Game or Demo files and delete them
              - Restart</memory></system>

EDIT: ^^I guess I am back to post noob status...why is it showing a link?

I ran the Intercooler for 2 months on my old 360 before it died on me, "it" being the 360. It won't guarantee that your 360 won't explode but it can't hurt it any.

No, it only hurts your wallet

Joking aside, people still on the fence dont need to waste your money on this thing. If your 360 is overheating then you've done something wrong, simple as that. Keep your console (and powerbrick, especially the powerbrick) away from small enclosed places, off the carpet, and out of the oven and you will be ok. If you're console is defective its defective, but its not overheating.

To put it into perspective, on a normal day here in the summer playing a game on my pc my video card will go from anywhere to 60 celsius idle to 70 something celsius when im playing a game. Thats atleast 158 degrees farenheit. The hardware in your computers and consoles are built to withstand a ton of heat, the 360 already has good enough airflow to keep it alive and that cooler is not going to save it if something is wrong or prolong its life to any noticable amount.

I'm sorry but you're wrong in stating that it will not prolong the life to any noticable amount. I have an Intercooler on mine, it's really easy to feel the difference between a system that been played for a long period of time with out the Intercooler as compared to a system played for the same length of time with the Intercooler. What the Intercooler really does is it just boosts the fans that are already located within the 360, meaning that hot hair is pulled out at a faster rate which makes the system actually cool to the touch and saves much unneeded heat on the circuitry within the system. You can even feel the difference of the hot air coming out of the back just by putting your hand back there and feeling.

Heat is the number one enemy of electronics.
If you don't mind a tad bit of fan noise I highly recommend the Intercooler as
                          it works very well.

Well ofcourse you can feel the difference it does what its supposed to im not saying its a piece just an unnecessary waste of money. Just how long do you plan on playing your 360? Probably about 7 years i would imagine, about 4-5 for its generation and maybe one or two more years after new consoles are released. Do you think it won't last that long on its own?

I just dont think this thing warrants a buy. All of my previous consoles survived their lifecycle and still function if i were to hook them up. Well..except for the dreamcast. We all have some console horror storys i guess, i went through 3 of those things (ironically its still my fav console ever).

I have the Pelican cooler add-on thingy (the official name is escaping me at the moment), and I don't play the 360 more than like 2, 3 hours at a time. This is just to avoid overheating, yet it still gets pretty warm after. I wait an hour or hour and a half at least before I start again.

Hearing all these horror stories about systems crashing is scaring me, I'm glad I got the 2 year warrenty. I've got a regular fan blowing across my 360 when I play it, I usually only play it around 2 hours in one shot, and give it a few hours rest. I've been doing that for the 6 weeks I've had it, but I've been slowly increasing it as the time to NCAA got closer, hoping to "break it in". I doubt if it will make any difference if it does crash, but it gives me peace of mind at the moment.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!
