my 2nd PS2 is still alive.

my original launch XBox is still kicking.

    it's just random luck.
I think that the quality of how well the system is handled also plays apart in that. Lot of people have problems because they don't put it in proper places and things of that nature. Happens with most consumer goods.......

Your're right. That's why I say I am only one person. But with the excitement of a next-gen console, and the fact that they are in short-supply, yes they are flying off the shleves. Besides that, the 360 is probably a good, fun system.

Note: I am enjoying being able to discuss a "testy" topic w/out the whole thing melting down into petty namecalling. That's gotten rare around here lately.

Exactly. That's all I'm saying. I would have been fine to continue on w/Xbox until I make a next gen comparison purchasing decision if they'd done that.

          True.

But on a little different note, I wonder how many people/families really have the resources/time to buy into 2 or more next-gen consoles. I think there are a ton of people like me, who for different reasons, have decided to wait for the Revolution and PS3 to drop before making a next-gen decision. Up until a few months ago, I was a little surprised to see that with MS products out there, people were still coming into the game stores and buying PS2's. And I don't think it has as much to do with how they fell about MS as it has to do w/ people's pocketbooks, the popularity of the system and who they may be buying it for (why would I buy little 10 year old Jimmy a 360 when he'd be perfectly happy with a PS2?).

To be totally fair, I remember when the Dreamcast and PS2 were released. PS1's were still flying off the shelves. Same with the PS2 now. It has a ton of games, it's cheap, and everyone knows it. The PS2 will still be selling well in 3 years.

Also, people are acting as if this thing is primarily based on videogames when its not. Its based on Sony's rep with electronics and the bad rep MS has with software.
It's more like a little over 4 years. Less then 2 years to save up $150 because it was more expensive before that(and now as well to be technical)

Xbox was $300 with games like Halo and PGR going for $50. Pick one up recently and you can get the stuff launch suckers paid full price for 1/5 or less value. Another scenario could be is they already owned another system(whether it'd be PS2 or PS1) and have plenty of titles to choose from.

People can get anything these days with plastic, someone smart with money would not get a 360 unless they played through all the older games out there.
