$60 Games Is Way Too Much

With next gen games costing $60 a pop, I still don't understand what is occuring here. I understand that costs for development has gone up on games + the cut to MS that 3rd parties must pay, but come on. I can see paying $60 for games like Oblivion, GRAW, Call of Duty 2, Condemned, DOA4, FNRD3, & NBA 2K6.

But, games like Top Spin 2, Amped 3, and Dynasty Warriors 5 are priced right at $40. TPS2 isn't even a port, it's an original game and they are charging $40. DW5 is a port so I can see the $40 price tag.

When I see games like Quake 4, Gun, Battlefield 2, Far Cry, Blazing Angels, NHL 2K6, Burnout Revenge and etc. to name a few selling at $60 when these were ports from last gen or the PC it is crazy. Games like this should be at the most $50.

I didn't even mention games like College Hoops 2K6, Madden06, and LIVE06 which many might have a different stance on cost.

I love my 360, but I can't wait till more original games (exclusives) come out to justify that $60 price tag.

What is everyone's take on all of this.

IMO since sports games come out each year they should be priced around $45

games like you mentioned GRAW etc since they only get a release like once in 2 yrs (right?) i can understand being 60 bones.

It's $10, doesn't bother me really. I'm only going one system this gen unlike going all 3 last gen, so in the long run I'll be spending a lot less money. I had a N64 and games were 70 for it.

yeah that's pretty much my opinion on it too. Yearly games should be less than games like HALO or whatever that comes out once or twice per console.

those 70 buck game days for that system didnt last very long though. i dunno i told myself i was gonna just buy the 360, but i bet i break down and get a ps3 b/c i'm a gaming geek lol

I agree with the games you mentioned not being worth $60. That's why I didn't buy them. I decided there was no way I was paying $60 for NHL2k6 when it's just a port of a much cheaper Xbox version. So, I'll just do without it. If everyone felt the same, no one would buy them at that price point and they would have to lower the price. If they're selling enough copies at that price to make a profit, there's no way they're going to lower them.

Games like Oblivion I have no problem dishing out $60 for. I'll be playing that for years to come. There are going to be a lot of games that I wait for price drops or buy used, though, if $60 becomes the standard (which it looks like it is).

Extreme, I think I'm doing the same this gen and just sticking with the 360 and only 1 system. It get's to be way too expensive with multiple systems. Like I was telling DXZeke last night, now that SDvR2007 is coming to the 360, I really have no need to buy a PS3.

I agree with the games you mentioned not being worth $60. That's why I didn't buy them. I decided there was no way I was paying $60 for NHL2k6 when it's just a port of a much cheaper Xbox version. So, I'll just do without it. If everyone felt the same, no one would buy them at that price point and they would have to lower the price. If they're selling enough copies at that price to make a profit, there's no way they're going to lower them.

Games like Oblivion I have no problem dishing out $60 for. I'll be playing that for years to come. There are going to be a lot of games that I wait for price drops or buy used, though, if $60 becomes the standard (which it looks like it is).

All I can tell you, speak with your wallet, if you aren't happy about $60 games, don't buy them. Join Gamefly or rent them.

that it was, but i had the n64 when it launced and until the next system came out and i only spent 70 bucks on a game twice. it was always 50!!

Gamefly is the way to go. I've saved so much money since 360 has come out. I was about to run out and by MLB 2K6 yesterday til I checked my email and saw the GF had shipped it out to me yesterday. I'll wait til tomorrow when i should have it from them. If I like it, i'll keep it for $46.99.

I'm highly considering Gamefly and may check it out since I received a free trial offer from Giggas the other day.
