I do agree that sports titles should be lower in price. The only way a sports titled game should be $60 is if the game is totally revamped, which most are not.
But as EG mentioned, you can rent or Gamefly games. So it isnt like you dont have any options.Comment

It's a tough call. I understand why the developers and publishers charge so much, mainly because of all the people involved each year, even if the game isn't much of a change over the previous year.
These people want their money for their medium ranged work. Face it, even programmers get lax and hate programming. I sure would.

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
its kind of stupid for the companies to sell games fro $60 cuz less ppl will buy the games or ppl will buy less games. They're only gonna buy the best games and not give some of the questionable games a try.Comment

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
I live in Canada so this doesn't bother me at all because the price didn't translate. We were paying $59.99 for first party and $69.99 for 3rd party Xbox and PS2 games already now it's the same with the 360. I do think ports should be lower priced. Tomb Raider is actually $59.99 here so we got a break on that one.Comment

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
I happen to think $60 is overpriced, but I also think that $400 is expensive for the system.
If you can afford the system, then you probably can afford games at $60 each.
Like others have mentioned, you always have the option of not buying.Comment

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
Higher prices also stifle innovation, so game quality will suffer. People aren't going to take the risk buying a game by a smaller developer with a great idea; they're more likely to buy the more sure thing from the larger developer. But games across the board are overpriced. $40-$50 for a PSP game? $35 for DS games? It's too much. I'm glad a game like top spin is priced at $40, but when you think about it even that's a tad much imo. I agree that games like Oblivion and GRAW are worthy of the $60 price tag though - problem is there will never be a sliding price scale for games other than what the developer feels the game should be priced at. Eventually they'll drop the price, but they'll get a lot of people willing the pay the full price up front. And won't PS3 games be priced even higher?HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
Originally posted by gohYes apprently so. If the price raises here unlike the 360 I predict massive flop in Canada because you'd have to be one hell of a Sony fanboy or maybe just a complete idiot to pay $799 for the system,$129 for the hard drive and $79.99 for first party games and $89.99 for 3rd. Guitar Hero 3 will end up costing more than Steel Batallion.Comment

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
Originally posted by MisfitNo one knows how much a PS3 or a PS3 game will cost, it's all speculation.
Sadly, to many articles and sony reps are slipping.
Like the Euro Sony Prez making the comment that the PS3 at 599.99 would be a steal for a blue ray player. It seems like the PR is going to try and spin this like "you're getting a game system and a BLUE RAY player."
I hope a lot of the analysts are dead wrong about prices and that the Sony Prez in Europe is just making wild comments... but most of the analysts have been right in years past... and it's now widespred info that the PS3 is a ton of money to make.
If it costs them 850 to make it and they sell it for 400 (like some are hoping) then they would lose 450 per system. NO COMPANY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would do that. Sony complained enough with the PS2 about how losing 110 bucks was hard enough.
When the system more than likely hits for 500 bucks, it'll suck as a consumer... not too mention that Hard Drive will more than likely be sold seperately. Why do I think that? Sony can make money off the REQUIRED HD that you'll be forced to buy. Thus cutting their overall loss by some amount.
It sucks to speculate, but it's not looking like this will be a cost friendly system (so many sony fans are hoping for) in the first couple years of it's lifespan.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: $60 Games Is Way Too Much
Originally posted by MetropolisWith next gen games costing $60 a pop, I still don't understand what is occuring here. I understand that costs for development has gone up on games + the cut to MS that 3rd parties must pay, but come on. I can see paying $60 for games like Oblivion, GRAW, Call of Duty 2, Condemned, DOA4, FNRD3, & NBA 2K6.
But, games like Top Spin 2, Amped 3, and Dynasty Warriors 5 are priced right at $40. TPS2 isn't even a port, it's an original game and they are charging $40. DW5 is a port so I can see the $40 price tag.
When I see games like Quake 4, Gun, Battlefield 2, Far Cry, Blazing Angels, NHL 2K6, Burnout Revenge and etc. to name a few selling at $60 when these were ports from last gen or the PC it is crazy. Games like this should be at the most $50.
I didn't even mention games like College Hoops 2K6, Madden06, and LIVE06 which many might have a different stance on cost.
I love my 360, but I can't wait till more original games (exclusives) come out to justify that $60 price tag.
