Re: Xbox 360 getting new CPU

This hapens on every system as the technology becomes more viable.

That's how the PS2 went to the slim model as all the components shrank. That's also how they can take a loss up front for these systems for a couple years until the costs to produce are reduced and their yields increase allowing them to get closer to profitability.

PS3 is also going to 65 nm possibly before launch but most likely shortly after.

If you think for a second that PS3 won't also have cooling problems with 90nm produced high powered parts, you'd be mistaken. PS3 will run hot too until they go to 65nm.

The CPU is just cheaper to make there will be no difference in power at all. in fact the old ones might work better. they are just reducing the size of the chip and circuits thats all. The ps2 did it (no not the slimline) all consoles and pcs do it. Its just made cheaper.

If I happen to get an old unit, then I don't really care, it'll at least be newer than what I have now.

So this doesn't make me mad. I'm actually quite happy MS is looking into ways to make this machine better.
You never know, they may have old models that they might switch it out for.

Does this mean I can exchange my current 360 for the newer technology one at BB since I got the 2-year warranty? Would that even be a smart thing to do?

Keep in mind the new Xbox360 CPU's should start arriving in Q1 2007.

Hahaha, I got the 2-year best buy plan and as soon as the new ones come out I'm going to swing down there and say that it's been whacking out on my intermittently. Can't wait! Do they hastle much when you try to exchange one?

I have the MS Warranty, so I doubt I'll ever get one of these new babies in my hands unless this totally craps out and I have to purchase one myself.

eh, i'm gonna stick to old Bessy until she gives out on me... i've rarely had any problems since moving my 360 away from my television lol (which was dumb in the first place)

but it's definately a good look for those who don't have a 360 because of the fear of getting a burnt out one.

Thanks, i figured it wouldn't be for a while.

One other question. If I swap systems when the new ones come out, I get to keep my HDD right?

do you have to prove the issues to them right there when you take it in? Does it have to be totally crapped out?

My warranty is at Game Crazy BTW. anybody exchange one on a GC warrenty?

I have had no issues with mine since launch day but I'm just thinking out loud.

They usually keep your entire system. I'm sure if you asked to keep your old HD they'd swap it out for ya. But why bother? It's worn might as well get a new one. Remember you can recover your gamertag and all Xbox Live Arcade downloads via XBL.

The only thing you would need to backup are your game saves. If you have Windows Media Player or if you get Windows Vista you'll be able to shoot over your data to your PC and download it back to your new Xbox360 HD.
