It's about time.

Thing is, Sony is using the PS2 as a barricade until the PS3 launch comes out. And then some. All one has to do is look at the GBA sales to see that people find value in outdated hardware for whatever reasons. The PS2 will not stop selling for a longwhile, many PS2 users will just play games like FF12, Persona 3 and Okami etc...if they can't afford the PS3. The 360 is not on an island like some would like to believe.

Well since the 360 has yet to outsell the PS2, your expectations were a bit off. Plus we are talking about people spending 129 dollars compared to 300 or 400. It's a good sign for MS.

There were a shortage of 360's for the first few months of its launch. And now that the 360 is becoming easier to find(in my area you can go to any gamestop/eb or best buy and pick one up) then its not a surprise that the system is outselling the PS2.

Why should we expect anything different now that the 360 is available to the general public on a consistent basis?

Actually I am more impressed with the number sold, not so much that it beat the PS2. 250,000 a month (if I am remembering correctly) is what the PS2 sold on average outside of holidays or big game releases to attain its market share.

I think Oblivion and the sudden availability of 360 is what drove that number. I will be even more impressed if MS can keep it going.

But I don't see anything with the level of interest Oblivion generated till Gears, and it is rumored to not release till October.

Maybe Madden though...being the only Next Gen place to get Madden should not be underestimated.

True, but Splinter Cell will be out on 360 in September, not sure about R6:Vegas, then NCAA, and Madden and Gears like you said.

Edit: According to EB, r6:Vegas 11/7/06. Also don't forget about Forza 2. I have no interest in it, but from what I understand, Forza 1 was a huge success

I am a huge GT fan, I bought the PS2 when GT3 hit. I admit Forza is better, but I don't know if it resonates with the Car nuts like GT does. Forza 2 won't hurt 360 sales, that is for sure.

I'm in the same boat as you. I bought a PS2 and a GT3 Wheel just to play that game. I can't tell you how many times I watched the intro movie to that game. To this day it's amazing.

My decision to not buy a PS3 was not price as I have the money. The no rumble in the controller bites and I can't see playing GT5 with no rumble.

Forza IMO dethroned Gran Turismo in it's first attempt only because Sony got complacent with the series. Forza 2 should be off the charts and i'm interested in it more than the next Gran Turismo.

Those numbers say a heck of a lot more good things about SONY than MS. PS2 has been out for how long, 5 years?? And its still pushing 200,000 units in a month?

MS people should be crying right now, they should have doubled PS2 numbers easy.

When you factor in the huge price differential between them, and the lack of availability of the 360 in many areas for the month of April , then maybe you'll see that # as impressive for MS. Expect that gap between the consoles to grow in the months of May and June, as supply is finally meeting the demand for the 360.

Look at it another way, how many of the 360 consoles that were available in stores for April were sold? Want to wager that the percentages far exceeds the PS2 supply/sold ratio?

I have the wheel to...the original one. I am really interested in MS's wireless wheel just because it is wireless. It became a pain to drag out the GT Wheel because the wires and the USB cord was just too damn short. GT3 was a completely different game with the wheel. What is funny is I never pulled the wheel out for GT4, just played it with the controller lol.
