    Does Gamecube use component?

I am looking to get a gamecube, but wondering if it has a component output. I had a gamecube a year or so ago, but only used the standard AV cables that came with it. It looked horrid on my HDTV, so i took it back after a few days. Anyone know if it uses 480p, or if the s-video looks good on hdtv?

yes, there is a Gamecube component cable. Sometimes they are hard to find, I bought mine from Nintendo's official store. It will let you play games in progressive scan mode.

Only the first run Gamecube's have the component out slot too, so inspect the Cube before you buy it.

really, I never knew that? What do the newer ones have, just S-video or something? I'm glad I got one at launch.

I have heard that if you ship your non-component enabled Gamecube to Nintendo they will swap it with a refurbished component enabled version. I would give Nintendo a call to verify this, before you buy.

My first Gamecube died (w/ component) and after buying a replacement and not finding the component out I did the Nintendo switch for a refurbished one. Works like a charm!

To display 480p, hold Start+B when turning on the game. You'll be prompted for progressive scan. Makes a marked improvement!

*EDIT: I also bought the cable from Nintendo directly. I've still never seen one in a store.*

That's the holdup on me getting my Cube. I can't find one with the Component inputs yet

You only have to do that once, the very first time, it defaults to prog scan every other game from there on out.

That's pretty sweet to know. I've never read that before. Thanks for the heads up!
