How is PS3 screwing Japan?
-Price
-System
Guys the PS3 is bigger than the xbox 360, which is a huge " no thanks" for japanese gamers..They want something sleek and small..hense why they want the Wii so much in that poll."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

Re: PS3 not #1 in Japan?
Personally I could care less, who wins over Japan. I'm in the US and as long as M$, Sony. and Nintendo gives me great games here. Thats all that matters.
People talking about who ever wins Japan, wins the console war...WTF ever.
That makes no sense, right now its who ever makes and presents the better titles. Regardless of system power.
Japan has proven to become bias over and over again. M$ is bringing out some great titles, even in Japan. But they still choose Nintendo over them, because the XBOX is an American system.
We buy Japanese stuff over here all the time and we don't piss on their products or knock them for their stuff and choose other stuff....Its wrong.
The person who is going to win this Video game war is the consumer. If you buy a XBOX 360 and your happy with it ...You win!!!!
If you buy a PS3 and your happy with it..You win!!!
If you buy a Nintendo Wii and your happy with it..You win!!!
Its about your happiness with your consoles, not the rest of the worlds opinion....who cares what they think....
Use your own conscious mind and like what you like....XB360 is a great system. PS3 will be a great system. Nintendo well...we'll have to wait and see..no doubt they will have some good titles. But with the kiddie target...it will possibly be great for kids and ok for adults.
PS3 isn't #1 in Japan...yah!! It isn't #1 in America either.....Sony's direction in Pricing as well as the loss of some major licenses is definitely not looking good...
But with titles like Assassin's Creed and MGS coming out. Its a beginning...I still think Blu-Ray will be its downfall. But they will still have some nice titles come out....
Its all about consumer choices.Comment

I thought this was interesting and somewhat surprising to me. Here are some numbers from a few articles, including the one above:
Before the 360 was released, Japanese gamers felt this way:
Want to buy:
PS3 - 63.2%
Wii - 36%
360 - 23.9%
After E3, the numbers look like this:
Greatest Interest:
Wii - 68.3%
PS3 - 21%
360 - 7.2%
DS - 3.0%
Is the PS3 launch price too high?
Yes - 88.4%
No - 10.9%
Too low - 0.7%
I'm not surprised how little interest the 360 is getting in Japan. Japanese gamers seem to not have any interest in the American product and MS was pretty naive to think they could sell over there IMO.
However, I am surprised at the numbers the Wii is putting up. Those are some pretty overwhelming numbers in support of the Wii over the PS3 after it showed at E3.Comment

Also saying Japan prefers Japanese things, last time I checked it's human nature to prefer the(sometime) superior product. You can't tell me American cars or many other products hold a candle to the Japanese equivalent...they have more pride in what they do us these days. Plus the Ipod and McDonalds are the biggest examples that contradict your statement.
Now lets shift gears to MS. 99 Nights was a pretty hard flop quality wise, especially compared to Lumines and Meteos. Dead or Alive 4 is just a placeholder for the almost guranteed superior VF5. What else is there? All those shooters, racers and sports are useless in Japan. Oblivion is out, but it's not what the japanese prefer. Just like we don't prefer soccer here.
What had happenedi s MS treated Japan as an afterthought when they released the original xbox and haven't recovered since...probably had the same thinking as you.Comment

294 people is no where near an accurate representation of the Japanese gaming market.
I love all the talk about who's won the console war when systems haven't even been released yet.
Let time be the determining factor. This is getting disgusting to be quite honest.Comment

So I assume the DS is killing the PSP over there?Comment

Re: PS3 not #1 in Japan?
I'm a reality type of thinker which is what leads me to wonder what the heck M$ was thinking in the first place trying to land some ground over there when they have so much demand over here. We basically all saw the tragedy that was the launch. I think they put too much into the Japanese market when the Japanese market wasn't considered within the first place. What games did they have over there that were asian specific??
I personally think the Wii is a great thought just like the DS. I believe the DS didn't take off too well because a lot of people thought it was a dumb idea. Now, the DS is still the hottest thing next to the iPod it would seem. I mean, the interactivity is a type of thing that many people don't consider. It's different but that thing is innovative. Everything that is great was an idea from something else.
And the PS3 will still sell well. Not as well as it use to. The majority of their sales will come after the price drops just like the PS2 did. It's quite a challenge to imagine what will be the outcome of the system wars. Heck, we don't even have any type of gameplay footage of a PS3 game right now. Think about the PS2 when it first came out. Weren't there people that paid the $299 even though it seemed like an outrageous price at first. Won't count any console out personally. All are interesting. So upset that the PS3 has some good exclusives so I guess I'll eventually have to pick up a couple myself.Comment
