Xbox 360 Price Drop This Xmas

It looks like Microsoft is planning to crash Sony's PS3 launch party by dropping the price of the Xbox 360 this coming Christmas. A source close to Microsoft says consumers can expect a price drop of almost $100.

The source also revealed according to Britxbox.co.uk that the Xbox 360 hardware team are now busy redesigning the chips supplied by ATI and IBM to cut costs and allow a price drop to coincide with the release of Sony's Playstation 3.

If this holds true you will be able to buy a Xbox 360 for half the price of the PS3 this Xmas. This will certainly put Microsoft in a very lucrative position when the next-gen console war starts for real later this year.

If this happens, Sony could be a little bit in trouble. There will be people out there no matter how much cheaper the 360 is that they will still buy a PS3.

Sony might be forced to do something they probably didn't want to do, lower the price even more.

To take it one step further, they should have just released one sku at $499 and released the bigger HDD at launch as a seperate item for those that want a bigger HDD.

Christmas 06, Your looking at a 300 dollar premium 360..or a 500 dollar PS3

Thats the decision a parent will have to make when there son wants a next gen console.

This same topic comes up in every single price thread. The PS3 will sell out. The 360 could be $19.99, the PS3 will still sell every single unit during the holiday. End of story.

There is no denying that it will sell out, but now it allows someone that was going to buy a next gen console the idea that they could have one at $200-$300 than what Sony is offering. This will change many people's minds that are on the fence, we can save a few hundred dollars by going MS's direction.

Their plan is to release HALO 3 at the PS3 launch, that will be a system seller anyways.

I doubt there will be a price drop this year but next holiday season when everything is out, I can see a price drop, but not only a year after launch they would lose money that way for sure.

Wasn't that MS's intial plan? I heard Halo 3 won't be coming out until 2007.
