This same topic comes up in every single price thread. The PS3 will sell out. The 360 could be $19.99, the PS3 will still sell every single unit during the holiday. End of story.

I'm not even sure why people are so focused on the PS3 having to come out before Christmas. There will be so few units available it won't make a difference if its out in November or January since it will sell out.

The price drop is much larger in the long term sense. The MS plan is to profit in 2007 but its much more important to grab market share from Sony than to make money early on. The price drop is very important in that regard.

I doubt there will be a price drop this year but next holiday season when everything is out, I can see a price drop, but not only a year after launch they would lose money that way for sure.

The original post says that MS may be getting cheaper chips so the price cut won't be THAT bad.

Either way if this happens it may push me to get an X360 over the PS3.

Just remember, there is no confirmed price drop, just a lot of speculation.

Their plan is to release HALO 3 at the PS3 launch, that will be a system seller anyways.

Halo 3 isn't coming until 2007. Bill Gates comments about it shipping the day the PS3 launches were retracted pretty quickly.

Gears of War will be Microsoft's Halo this year.
