Well, the game is great, I can easily say that. The controls are just about perfect. My only gripe, I can't get online! Tried to connect with Terry for a good 20 minutes. I read on several forums that it's the same for many people. Some can connect, some can't. Weird.Comment

Re: Any interest for the 360 Lord of the Rings Game?
Love the game so far. Finished the basic and advanced tutorials, and then defended Rivendell in the first "good" mission. You don't train individual units, instead you train battallions, which speeds up unit production into epic-scale conflicts rather quickly. Even in your tutorial missions, you're controlling an army with 60+ units in it, wall defenses, etc.
One thing about the controls that I wish was quicker: quick-selecting groups. I wanted to split my infantry into 2 groups, and then flank with my archers and cavalry and try to surround an opponent. To do that:
You have to hold the R trigger, then down on the D-Pad, hit A. Hit right on the D-pad, hit A to select a group. Then move somewhere and hit A again. Then you repeat your R-trigger+D-Pad+A stuff many times over. At least in that respect, PC RTS games are worlds easier (usually something like CTRL+1 to assign, then hit 1 to select the group). The good part is being able to hold RB and select a unit to just grab all of them. So, while I may not be able to split my archers into flanking units or anything, I can at least select them all in one quick shot and make sure that they keep to the rear while the peons and cavalry absorb the brunt of the attack.
I gotta say that the scale of the battles, even in the early going, is truly epic. You feel like you're watching a battle scene out of LOTR, if it weren't for the horrible choppiness if you tried to zoom in...Comment

Goodness, it's getting my lips all moist. I'm trying to figure out if I should try to invest in building a high end pc or invest more into my 360. Wish you could use a mouse and keyboard for it too. I'm definitely going to try it out to see what it does. Good impressions on the real. I'm definitely even more interested in picking this sucker up.Comment

Re: Any interest for the 360 Lord of the Rings Game?
Couple hours later, and I've run an "Evil" mission, and 4 or 5 good missions now.
It does tend to degenerate to a zerg-fest. Build up the biggest force and just walk through the other army. Probably my favorite thing is using the Elven Lancer Cavalry and calling an attack move (double clicking at a point past an opposing force) and watching them lower the lances and just plow through an enemy battalion; bodies flying everywhere, little goblin screams.
I'd like it if you could set your units up to patrol...I had the horde invade my fortress when I was halfway across the map one time, and I had a unit just standing around because they were out of range. Sure would be nice to be able to set patrol waypoints.
Either way, it's a hell of an effort on console. I couldn't quit playing it, but I have to watch some TV w/ the wife so I had to put it down. Very engrossing game.Comment

Originally posted by ExtremeGamerI had only played like one or 2 in my life, so I was unfamiliar as well. The controls are GREAT. I mean, they are perfect. If you do the tutorial, you'll learn them as it walks you through every control. This game is deep, it'll last many, many hours. I just wish I could play online.PS4: aBayBates

Re: Any interest for the 360 Lord of the Rings Game?
I had some store credit at EB so I picked this up this morning and did the basic and advanced tutorials. This game so reminds of the command and conquer game I used to play on the playstation one except the game takes place in the LOTR universe. This game brings back the memories of when my friends and I would link up the tv's and playstaions and just play C and C all freaking night against each other.
The controls seem a little overwhelming at first but if you go through both tutorials as EG said you'll pick it up in no time. I about to start up the single player and give it a whirl. So far this game seems like it has a ton of potential for offline and online play. If you have any interest in RTS's or LOTR and have a 360 you should at least rent this a check it out.Comment

Re: Any interest for the 360 Lord of the Rings Game?
Honsetly this game isn't that great, in my opinion. Graphics are ok, kinda PS2 ish, even the cut scenes are substandard. Game slows down considerably and the control is really burdensome and unresponsive at times. It really is hard to play an RTS without a keyboard.
I will most likely sell this back to gamestop for either Chromehounds or NCAA 07.
This game is not next-gen and you should really save your money unless you are just obsessed with playing an RTS on the XBOX 360. Just being honest.Comment
