Capcom responds to PS3 fanboys

Capcom has officially responded to allegations that it was "turning its back" on Sony by denying PS3 an exclusive in Devil May Cry 4.

Senior director of strategic planning and research for the game giant, Christian Svensson, insisted making the title as widely available as possible was the best decision for Capcom.

"We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes," Svensson responded on the Capcom forums. "At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it)."

"It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers."

Outrage erupted after Capcom announced it would be bringing DMC4 to Xbox 360 and PC just a few days before the PlayStation 3 launch in Europe.

The move scores Microsoft another exclusive-pinching point, famously joining Grand Theft Auto IV and Pro Evolution Soccer on the Xbox 360.

DMC4 will launch on both consoles simultaneously, with the PC version expected a little later. A release date is yet to be confirmed.

I don't understand what they're whining about. I could see them complaining if the game wasn't coming out on the ps3 at all but they are still getting the game.

it helps justify their purchase. Why pay more for a ps3 when all of the big 3rd party games also come out on the cheaper and better supported 360...

We get some of theirs, but they don't get ours - Christian Svensson from Capcom has said that Dead Rising and Lost Planet won't be going to the PS3 or Wii.

Recently Capcom said they were "committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible" and so it would seem with Devil May Cry 4 making the jump from the Playstation to the Xbox 360. However someone then asked in the official Capcom forums whether gamers could now expect Lost Planet or Dead Rising, Capcom's most successful 360 titles thus far, to go to the PS3 or Nintendo Wii. He replied as follows:

"The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I'm bound by NDAs on these matters so I can't divulge why this is the situation.

The quote delivered above references our strategy moving forward, not something that is necessarily retroactive. You can see evidence of this with our previously stated RE5 plans going to 360 and PS3 simultaneously."

As Svensson said, we can only look forward to the future and see what happens. Still, admist the DMC fallout, this is a little amusing.

You know what would be really funny, if Capcom decides to re-release the first 3 on 360 with enhanced graphics, so that Xbox Fans will know the storyline better....That would be nasty......and I'd buy every last one of them.

There are some things planned for DMC on the 360. You didnt hear this from me but dont be surprised if you see DMC 1,2 and 3 on the 360 before 4 ships.

Also there might be a collectors edition version of the DMC4 as well.

the latest is that exclusivity is still under discussion for PS3 but no news as of yet of it comin to the 360.
