    My GUN 360 Review

It appears that the original GUN thread is gone.

I just completed GUN last night and would have to say that this game was a joyful experience from start to finish. I have wanted to buy this on the 360 since launch, but never did do to the price at $60. Once the price dropped, I knew this game would be in my collection. There are many out there that are saying bad things about it because it’s not next gen quality and just a high res port of the XBOX version. Graphically I think the game for a 1st gen 360 game is ok, but wouldn't be acceptable for a 2nd or 3rd gen.

I really enjoyed the storyline + gameplay mechanics and thought that it was a polished game that was put together very well.

Some of the boss battles were down right frustrating at times taking me more than a few tries to beat, but it also didn’t help that I didn’t do a good portion of the side missions to build up Colton. Now that I’m done with the game, I am going back to finish up all of the sidequests that I didn’t while playing the main quest and I think that Neversoft did a great job with the variety of sidequests. My one complaint though is that they could have incorporated them in a better manner into the game. I worked on some during the storyline, but not as much as I should have.

The horse riding is some of the best I have ever seen in a game. Quick draw was another nice addition that I think was also incorporated very wisely.

I like the environments even though at times they do look a bit plain. Those that were complaining that this version of the West was to empty when traveling, yes that’s true, but remember in the 1700-1800’s there were vast lands with limited travel. I understand that this is a game and it needs to be kept interesting, but there were times where I rode on horseback and there were no enemies via animals/bandits and there were times where I was always running into trouble. I just feel like GUN stayed true to the material that it was trying to present. I just wish we were able to ride a boat on the river that you could have put together in a possible side mission, maybe next time.

Also comparing this to a open sandbox game like GTA does this game no justice. I think that this game is more than GTA, this game is very story driven with the sidequests as an afterthought. GUN is like The Godfather, story comes first and then all the side missions come next.

I know that Neversoft is working on a remake of sorts with even more features for the PSP called GUN Showdown, I hope they take what they have here and expand it into a sequel.

The game can be bought now for $30-$40 next gen and $15-$20 current gen depending if you buy new or used, and I highly recommend picking it up for current or next gen.

    Re: My GUN 360 Review

I had this game at launch, but it kind of got lost in the shuffle of all of my other new flashy shiny XBox 360 games. I sold it on eBay after about a month or so, never really giving it a fair shake.

I do have to say though...the time I played it, I had fun. Although I read that it was mostly a direct port of the PS2 and XBox version of the game, that didn't really bother me that much.

I think the mistake they made with this game was making it a launch title. If it came out in say....February of this year, I think it might've done well and been a bit more popular.

ExtremeGamer...you've been playing this game recently, huh? Going back to the well? What do you think?

TJ, I agree that if they would have waited till Spring for 360 release w/ next gen upgrade the game would have been better. I have no major complaints about it, just minor since I thought it was really fun.

This game was a lot of fun. It was too short, amongst others, to warrant a $60 price tag. This game deserves a fully next gen sequel, however I think that I read there is not much of a chance of that happening.

There's a remake being done on the PSP with added content called GUN Showdown.

This game was probably one of my favorite's that I've played in a long time. Barring mediocre graphics, and being a fairly short title, I absolutely had a blast with the game. I'd definately recommend it.

Yeah, I got this game when it first came out for the xbox (I probably won't get it for my 360, since I still have my xbox). I found it to be a lot of fun, but with oblivion and nba2k6, this game got lost in the shuffle. I will go back to it though. I personally liked riding my horse into the wide open space of the old west, that is pretty much how the lanscape was, a whole lot of nothing with towns popping up here and there.

                Re: My GUN 360 Review

Did any of you GUN fans try Red Dead Revolver? Was it any good since it's cheap now, I think around $7.99.

                GUN Showdown Preview PSP:

"For one thing, the story will be augmented with five brand new missions that weren't included in the original game. Essentially considered to be missions left on the cutting room floor, these missions will seamlessly fit into the plot to add additional length and round out further details with the original story. One such mission that we were shown was the elimination of Kragen, an outlaw whose activities were connected to Hoodoo Brown. Taking out his henchmen was mildly tricky because of the lack of a second analog stick, but since camera control is tied to the face buttons (a la Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror), it would appear to be only a matter of practice before you're pulling off head shots without pause. You also will notice that your aim in Quickdraw will be a bit stickier on opponents to help compensate for the lack of analog control.

Impressively, all of the game maps from the original title have been included without any details or features subtracted. While the load times for the open-ended world will initially be around 15-20 seconds, the whole world will be streamed after that. Fortunately, Colton will have a couple of new tricks up his sleeve to explore this world. The first is that he'll receive a horse that will have a name, and he'll be able to whistle to the horse to call it to his side. This will eliminate the constant search for transportation back to town after you've gone hunting or gold mining. Colton will also have new weapons, such as land mines and throwing knives, to wreak havoc on his enemies."

                ------

Why couldn't we have gotten this "Director's Cut" version on the 360? Like TJ said, they should have waited till sometime after launch to release a more next gen version with added features.

Maybe there will be a sequel on the 360.

Wait, Candy, you bought this for the Xbox like a month ago, and you bought it for the 360 as well? It's the same game.

Yeah, TJ, I loved the game, I whipped through it to beat it and just sold it. Only took like 4 hours to beat.

EDIT - I knew you bought it a month ago. Why would you buy it again for the 360? The graphics aren't even better.

I never opened the xbox title, so I had returned it last month. I just picked this up last week for 360 since it was only $30 & finished it up last night. I figured I could also build up achievements in the process of wanting to play this game since last fall. This week I'm working on finishing the sidequests.

So you paid $20 for achievements? Your money.

I didn't even bother with the side quests, I was actually getting bored with the game as it got near the end, and I don't get rid of games till I beat them, so there you go..LOL

You should have tried the sidequests, their not too bad. I did the same thing you did, played through the game and didn't touch most of the sidequests. I'm going back to finish them up.

I can't believe you got bored, it was a good game. If you were rushing through it, than that explains it.

I may in a few weeks try Insane Difficulty.

Nah, I wasn't rushing through it, the game is pretty easy. I only played it on normal though. Just became a little repititve and shallow to me. I like the game though, but it was just like playing a current gen game on a next gen system.

Red Dead revolver is another excellent title in my opinion. It's definately worth the $7.99. I'd say it's worth $20 or so... so I'd definately snag it up for that price...
