If you read the post of mine after the one you quoted, you'd realize why I think it's ridiculous. Of course I know the HD-DVD drive will be able to read DVD's and HD-DVD's. That's not what I find ridiculous.

It's the idea that only the internal HD-DVD drive can play HD-DVD games while the external HD-DVD option for Xbox 360 users are SOL because that option will only allow them to play HD-DVD movies and not the games that are based on HD-DVD format.

I don't think Microsoft would alienate the early adopters by changing their stance on HD-DVD (their stance was that HD-DVD would only be used for playing movies, not games). Another thing that I find ridiculous is the idea that there's any significant difference between the internal and external HD-DVD drives that would make only the internal HD-DVD drive able to play games while the external drive can't.

I see your point.

But consider the technical limitations that may be in place.

Having an external HD-DVD drive over a shared bus (USB) will surely impact gameplay. Imagine your hard drive, your Microsoft video camera, and steering wheel all sharing the same USB pipe. There isn't much bandwidth to go around so that people wouldn't complain. I'm sure this was done in the interest of quality assurance.

I'm sticking with the one I bought, I don't care for HD-DVD at all, there's no point.

Yea for now, I'm in the same boat as you. Sticking with the one I have.

550 is a great price thats like paying 150 for a hd dvd player which im gonna be all over

I'm not going to get this.

When I do buy an HD-DVD player, I'll just buy a standalone player. I know it will cost more, but I'd rather do it that way than buy one that's part of my 360.

I'm not big on watching movies on my gaming console.

crap like this pisses me off.. pay all this money for 360 with HD, all extra stuff, games, controllers, memory card etc..

then they release basically a whole new system grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I agree. Clearly Sony's included blu-ray is affecting their thinking at least a little bit. And if games start being developed that take advantage of this... That's just a nice ol' kick-in-the-*** thank you to all of us who bought systems early on...

(And yes, I realize apple and other companies do it with their products all the time, but I hope to God we don't get to a point where we need to buy a new videogame system every one-and-a-half to two years just to keep up.)
