If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :) -

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
Pets. I have seen my PS1, PS2, and XBox take many a spill because one of my dogs took a random run through the living room and got caught up in the wires.
I appreciate the help and advice from everyone. One final question. The wireless controllers that come with the 360, are they already charged and ready to go? Thanks again!
well, teh wireless controller that comes with the premium doesn't come with the rechargeable setup, so you'll need batteries. I'm not sure if the rechargeable ones come charged, but i'd guess not. Anyway, if you are on the fence about the rechargeable, then just get yourself a 4 pack of regular batteries and see how long they last. You can always buy the kit later anyway..
For me, since i'm a member of a wholesale club, i just spent the 10 bucks and got myself a huge pack of AA batteries. I got the 360 at launch and still have some batteries left from the pack i bought. I know that in the end, i'm eating more money because every year or so i have to buy more batteries, but that's just the way it goes sometimes...... I know myself and that i personally will always forget to recharge batteries.Yankees, Manchester United, Chicago Bears, New York RangersComment

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
When i got my 360 it came with some duracel batteries.
This is what I got for a battery pack (Quick Charge Kit), its kind of expensive ($30) but it fully charges a battery in less than 2 hours and two batters in about 3 hours, and it last for a very long time. I didn't want the play and charge kit because you have to charge it while your playing the 360.

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
I bought my 360 last Sunday and I got the charge and play thing. Since the xbox controller that comes with the system comes with batteries, I havent had any use for it yet though.
I'd recommend the cooling fan, as someone else stated, its a cheap extra peice of insurance.
I'd also recommend getting a warranty from the store you purchase it at if possible. This will save you from having to send it in to microsoft if it crashes and waiting for someone elses refurbished unit it be sent to you.
Oh, and buy some games also. I got Saints Row, Dead Rising, and Test Drive Unlimited. Congrats and welcome to the club!Comment

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
I just don't see why people would spend the extra $,even with kids the controller will seperate if they trip on it. All the complaints about the orginal Xbox controller being too big and heavy but the wireless is just as heavy. (I never complained I liked it and do like it better than the 360 one) The only thing I could think of is if they wanted 4 controllers since it only takes 2 wired and 2 wireless.
No I don't care since it's not my money I just don't see what's so great about it. I bought a wired controller same day I got my 360 and just use the wireless has the player 2 controller.Comment

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
Wireless controllers are probably #1 on my list of best console innovations. No more stupid cords. No more tangling. No more mess. No more console getting jerked around. No more range issues. When it comes to computers wireless is also the way to go... wireless net, wireless keyboards, wireless mice. Wires are bad.
Play and charge kit is a neccessity btw. AA battery life is probably like 20+ hours of gametime and that really adds up after a while. I'm sure I've used more than the cost of the kit by now in hours of would be AA usage.
Also, addressing the original post, make sure you get a warranty. I'm not convinced that overheating is causing the meltdowns so cover yourself by spending the extra $40-50 that ensures you get a repair or new console if something goes wrong with your $420 (taxes!) investment.
Edit - Oh, and it may just be me, but I love the solid and sturdy feeling of the wireless controller better than the wired one.Comment

Yup..I'll be getting a wireless soon and using the wired controller for pc games or something. the tangling is becoming rediculous.Comment

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
The wireless controller is great and works good.I picked up a Mad Catz wired controller cheap so if i don't have batteries around I have backup. Anyway, the MC controller has now become my favorite all time Xbox controller simply because it is more slim and has the feel of a big PS2 controller. Now I want one for my regular Xbox. Wireless or wired, the controllers for the 360 rule with the "on the fly" on/off switch on the controller. Nice feature.ByurrulzIdon'tfollowComment

Its convenience! Thats why people spend the extra money! I'm in my living room slouching on my couch, relaxed. I don't have to worry about will it reach to where I want to sit and have to worry about moving my xbox if i'm sitting too far from it. Before with the regular xbox I have to sometimes move it out of its normal place so that it would comfortably reach everyone.
I also have a 60 inch dlp and sometimes I want to sit far about 10 feet sitting at a my dinner table while other people are sitting on the couch playing the sametime or so that I can comfortably see everything.Comment

Re: Finally purchasing a 360...
I asked here and a few people said they are using them and haven't had any problems. I checked the QUick Charge info and the batteries in that pack are NiMH at 1800 mAh, some people say they are using 2500 with no problems. I am actually still using the two batteries that came with the console, so I haven't tried it, but people have said it isn't a problem. I will defintely look into this some more though, it isn't worth breaking a $50 controller....Comment
