You do realise that poll was bugged right? I'm sure Sony is worried about MS in Japan, who to this day have only sold around 140,000 360's there. lol

        Mini-Disc (1991) - ATRAC Audio
Sony Dynamic Digital Sound (1993) - DD5.1 competitor
Multi-Media Compact Disc (1994) - High density optical storage
Music Clip (1999) - Digital player - ATRAC audio
HiFD (1998) - Iomega Zip Drive competitor
        Memory Stick (1998) - SD/flash memory competitor
Super Audio CD (1999) - CD Alternative
        PSP (2004) - UMD Format

I just don't understand why Sony didn't use Blu-Ray as an add-on drive or just put it in the more expensive console. This gives the consumer a choice on whether or not they want to pay for it or not.

It's true that Blu-Ray has a long list of supporters.......but so does HD-DVD. In fact, I'd call the support even between both competitors. I believe I saw a nice listing of supporters for both formats in Crutchfield's monthly magazine.

If it was an add-on drive it would fail and developers wouldn't put their games on Blu Ray discs. The PS3 is pretty much a guaranteed success and the easiest way for Sony to get Blu Ray players into as many livingrooms as possible. Who knows if their strategy will work out though.

Seems to me the way you put it, they arent very confident in their product, so you eat the cost of them pulling a trojan horse type of system.

True. That's something I thought of when typing the other post. There are still some hurdles (ie: price point, must have HDTV to take advantage of Blu-Ray and convincing people that the PS3 is more than just a gaming console), but only time will tell how the public will react to that. I think it might be tough to convince Mom/Dad that Little Johnny needs the PS3 at it's price point. IMO they won't see it as part of an entertainment center, but a toy that Little Johnny wants.

I know i have read before, that movie makers are going to start putting some form of anti-piracy measure on their HD DVD'd so that they will only play in 1080p through a certain format HDMI cable. HDMI, as i understand, produces a truly digital signal....whereas component cables are still an analog signal. I wouldnt think it would be to hard to make an cable for the 360 that goes from its connection on the back, to HDMI on the other end.
M$ always said the 360 would be adaptable/upgradable (hence 1080p). The video port on the back is probably universal. With that one spot you can hook up s-vid, rca, and component. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce an HDMI cable soon.
