I took mine off last night after posting that melted cooler pic and am done with it until a solution comes out that doesn't plug into the 360 power outlet. If my system kicks the bucket, I'll just send it in to MS and get a new one at Best Buy with their warranty then sell the refurb on ebay.

Dang, that's jacked up. I felt like less of a gamer because everyone was picking one of these up for their system. I just couldn't do it captain. So glad I didn't either because I probably would have been extra ticked seeing that I still ahven't gotten my warranty. There isn't a warranty on the intercooler? Couldn't Nyko end up responsible for repurchasing a 360 for those who suffered the loss because of the intercooler?? Good idea, not enough research time.......

I took mine of to investigate and mine looks fine and i've had it about as long as i've had the 360. Other than the occasional maintenance I have to do on when the foam starts sliding out it's been fine. I just take a small object and push it back to the bottom. When it starts coming loose, my it starts to sound like a 747. Some of the intercoolers could be defective as well. I've had no problem with mine, so i'm putting it back on. It's probably another case of randomness like the 360 malfunctions. Also, when is MS going to ever endorse a 3rd party peripheral.

I've had no problems. I'm gonna take it out though. i only needed it for the summer time because my room always gets hot. Now that the weather is cooler, there's no more need.

                Re: NYKO Intercooler Damage

I want to chime in here and say after this thread I went to checked my intercooler. Never had a problem with it but decided might as well check. Well, it was hard to get off and below you will see why. Now my only decision is try my 360 without the intercooler or get another 360. You can see from the last pic that the top middle prong is missing the plastic piece. It's melted inside the intercooler.

Ouch, seems like that's the sort of thing NYKO could face a class action suit over.

I'm sure it says somewhere on the box or instructions that they are not liable for damage that may be caused to your system. The product isn't licensed, you're using it at your own risk, just another reason I never use anything but official products.

Here's the thing I thought with the non-official products though; that the products themselves would fail or maybe not work as they are supposed to, not completely destroy your console. If indeed this intercooler is destroying systems, i think this is a completely separate level of how these 3rd party non licensed products are used.

Then again, I don't remember the last time an accessory came out that had the potential to destroy your system( legit accessories, not imported or 'gray-area' stuff).

                      Meh....use the paint spray!!!!!!

                          Re: NYKO Intercooler Damage

I pulled mine off and checked to see if there was a problem with the Intercooler or 360 receptacle, nope clean as a whistle. What concerns me is that I smelled the receptacle of the Intercooler and it had a burning smell (years of working with electronics, so I recognize when something is arcing).

I've decided to take it off, besides my EB warranty is up in 4 months so I might as well have my launch 360 die of natural causes.

I must admit the system is a whole lot quieter without the Intercooler.

I've smelled a weird burning stench also, but no burn marks on 360 or cooler, but it's staying off. I'd rather allow the system die a natural death than the intercooler causing it.

That's the risk you run with a non-Microsoft accessory. If your console is damaged by a Nykko intercooler they may not honor your warranty and either make you pay to fix it or just refused to fix it. I don't know if Microsoft does this, but when I had to call Sony about my PS2 they had me tell them what products I used with it (controllers, memory cards, etc) before telling me if they'd fix it or not.
