Re: xbox 360 or ps3
Best thing is to read on the net to see all the exclusive games both systems will be offering.
As far as sports games it's been rumoured that most, if not all, EA games will be ported from the 360 to the PS3.
Also, many developers and engineers have said that there will be close to no difference in power between the two consoles. So it's not like you'll be missing out with better graphics on one system compared to the other.
Other things to consider:
- Blue Ray is a more expensive media so games could be $10.00 more per game. This hasn't been confirmed yet but I've heard that from a few places.
- PS3 will be more expensive and harder to get hands on at first. So if you can wait till possibly January or February and don't mind putting down an extrea $200 or so (give or take) then consider the PS3. Also be aware that there won't be too many games upon release. Their library looks pretty bare as are most consoles when they come out.
- online play. Sony boasts about free online availability. But this is not entirely true. It will be free to get online with Sony's servers and any game that is offered on there. But it's wide open for 3rd party developers to force you to pay a monthly charge for their game on their server.
So instead of paying $60.00/year for Xbox Live that allows you to play every single game online you might end up paying over $50.00 a MONTH to play only a handful of games on the PS3.
Again, with the exclusivity you might find yourself unable to play certain games depending on your console. Gears of War for instance is an Xbox exlclusive. But MLB the Show will only be on PS3.
And I've read that Marvel is coming out with a MMORPG for Xbox 360 only while DC Comics is coming out with thier own MMORPG exclusively for the PS3.Last edited by Money99; 11-01-2006, 04:47 PM. -

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
I'd say go with the 360. Like Money said 90-95% of all games will be on both the 360 and PS3 especially Sports games. The 360 gets you the same level of image quality as the PS3 for far less money and you don't have to buy HD cables unlike the PS3 which only ships with standard cables.
Don't forget Xbox Live which is the best online service available.Comment

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
I bought a 360 and I love it. I'm sure I would love the PS3 too but I've spoken to a few people who work in the industry and all of them say there won't be any difference between the two with the exception of watching BlueRay DVD's. The game's will virtually be the same.
And I love Xbox Live. It's great. I don't know anything about Sony's online system but Microsoft has their's down cold. I've enjoyed playing NHL07 online for a while now and it's a blast. And when Gears of War comes out on Tuesday I'll be playing that online immediately too.
Enjoy the 360. It's great.Comment

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
The sports games will be almost identical on both systems. You should factor in whether or not the following are issues for you:
-Price(advantage 360)
-Online(PS3's is free but 360's will probably be better)
-Blu-Ray vs HDDVD(if either is important to you, if neither is 360 has the edge since it is optional)
-Tilt Controller(if you think PS3 will use this in a big way and it will be fun, then again, if you think this will be fun you would probably be looking at a Wii)
-Exclusive titles(hard to think about far in advance, but I'd say Sony won this war last generation)Comment

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
There is more in way of options for sports games on the PS3 side of things. If money isn't a factor then def go the PS3 route. The 360 has one baseball game where as wit hthe PS3 you have 2. And so on. Just something to think about.Comment

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
I'm trying to hold out and pick up a ps3 for the following reasons. Keep in mind that I would still love a 360 and the differences are very small overall.
1. Baseball games. Baseball is my true passion and not being able to play what could potentially be a hall of fame game in mlb07 would tear me apart. A game like this would be in my system all year round and take up a good chunk of my gaming time.
2. Ps3 controller. While I will miss the rumble, I just find that it's far better for games like Winning Eleven, a title that along with baseball, will be my main gaming choice. I will miss the 360 controller for games like Colin McCrae though.
3. New selection of games/developers for someone coming from the xbox for the past 5 years. While games like Halo and Forza are great, I think I would really enjoy playing the games that I missed because of not owning a Sony. Those unique titles like Heavenly Sword, Okami, etc...are examples.
Even still, I could be easily tempted to buy a 360. The sports games I play will basically be the same on both systems. Saving a few bucks would be nice- but online support isn't a factor for me as I'm not a big online gamer.Comment

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
The only Sony sports game worth a piss is MLB The Show. Their basketball game can't compare to NBA2K7 and Wayne Gretzky hockey was so good they didn't bother making a game this year.
If you're a HUGE baseball fan then you have to get a PS3. I'm a big baseball fan but I'm going to gamble on Ben Brinkman pulling the 2K series from the dead.
And if High Def DVD viewing is a must for you, you might want to do some reading on it. There is no clear cut winner thus far. And remember, Microsoft is behing HD-DVD and so is Toshiba. Those two names alone have much greater pull in the industry than Sony and the dozens or so other companies behind Blue Ray.
Also remember that there are reports of massive issues with Sony's hardware thus far. Just recently, during a viewing of the PS3 to online mags, the machine froze up and had severe problems. This was only last week and the console is due to come out in 3 weeks. I sure hope they can figure it out by then.
If you're hell bent on getting a PS3 I would highly suggest waiting until this time next year. By then, they'll be in generation 3 boxes and should have a lot of the quirks beaten out.Comment

Re: xbox 360 or ps3
I got a ps1 when it came out and also a ps2 and i liked the games. But now i think MS is getting more into games. I even heard they are coming out with a windows for gaming.
Anyway, i love baseball games. So of course i bought mlb 06 the show. To be honest i didnt like it at all. I went right back and played mvp 06 college baseball, and mvp 05 on my pc. And like someone else said the sony sports games really suck. I love 2k basketball games and I feel the baseball game could become great. Isn't mvp 07 going to come out for the 360?Comment
