Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
The price is not dropping soon, but you can still find a deal. Right now Overstock.com has a 10% off coupon, so you could snag a 360 there for $360, no tax and $1.40 shipping. You can pick up the coupon links at techdeals.net
There may be some discounted bundles around for the holidays.
BTW, all the 360 games are in HD provided you have an HDTV (or a PC monitor and VGA adapter)Last edited by Pete1210; 11-10-2006, 09:00 PM.Comment

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
As you tried to make a point you made yourself look bad PK...first of all look at those numbers .....
It sold 132,000 less than a DS, that cost $129.99 (so)
It sold 17,000 less than the PS2 that cost $129.99 (so)
it sold 218,000 in just one month at $399.99 or even $299.99....I see that as a victory...seems they sold larger from a $$$ stand point.
Nintendo and Sony are making more from the DS and the PS2, respectively, than MS is from the 360 despite their lower price tags due to selling at a profit. MS just has reservoirs of cash from which to draw to support the 360 until it stops being a loss leader.
Take care,

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
Interestingly, I'd suggest that MS' piss poor BC support on 360 has sold a few PS2's as well. I sold my XBOX when I got my 360 and I bought a PS2 in October because I wanted to be able to play some old favorites that were also on PS2.
As far as the price drop, I don't see why they need one now or soon, especially since a)they're already selling them at a loss and b)the PS3 is about $200 more. If the Wii really takes off then they might consider it but I think neither MS nor Sony is too concerned with what Nintendo is doing. I think Nintendo has a chance to really regain a larger marketshare with its innovative strategy and lower price point this gen. This type of strategy certainly has been working out with the DS.Comment

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
The masses don't all have the money to plunk down on a high priced gaming console. I think for many people, the price of the DS and PS2 are the main draw because they don't want to spend $300+ on a machine or flat out can't afford to. The "mass appeal of next gen" is not somethoing that changes people's financial realities.

If the PS3 is MS primary competitor, the obvious time for a price drop is when the PS3 actually has supplies on the shelves. No point in trying to steer away PS3 customers to the 360 right now, Sony is doing that with the shortage. Come next spring/summer, the hardware will be almost two years old and they should be able to do a price drop.Comment

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
Thank you, Rudy. My point exactly.
Are the strong sales of the DS and the PS2 an indicator that the next-gen is overpriced and that it only will appeal to the hardcore and not the masses? That's my point.
And what does it mean for the industry, since Sony and MS are manufacturing and selling the PS3 and 360 at a loss, while Nintendo is manufacturing and selling the DS and Wii at a profit, right out of the gate?
Nintendo honcho Reggie Fils-Aime was emphatic in September at the Wii launch announcement that the Big N sells all of its hardware at a profit right from the start, including the Wii. That's a big difference between the Big N and Sony and Microsoft.
Take care,

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
Some of you guys are missing pk's point. You say you can't compare the two since the DS is only selling more since its cheap which is the point. That's why people are asking if the 360 will drop the price. Its still above the accepted price range for the masses regardless if its cheaper than the PS3 or being sold at a loss. Many people don't care what system it is - price is important.

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
Those comparisons of the 360 being outsold by the DS and PS2 are meaningless. Look back at any system launch and it's sales figures vs the previous generation and the previous generation has always outsold it. The masses are always one step behind the technology and the first adoptive leaders in the gaming world. It has nothing to do with the 360 being "overpriced" whatsoever. It's just that the old generation will still be popular with the money-challenged Walmart crowd until the companies themselves pretty much move on to the next generation and they have no choice but to go up a level.
And as for the 360 price drop, once Sony announced their ridiculous prices that was DOA. If you are waiting for the price drop to buy a 360 then you will be waiting a long time.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop
Yep, that's about what i think as well. Even then it will probably go from $299/$399 to $229/$329 range. I just don't see they can cut much as they're already "near the bone" in terms of what it costs to make the system.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
