Re: When is the Xbox 360 price drop

I think, atleast partially, it is a fair comparison.

Many people purchasing the PS2's at the lowered price at this point probably have already had one, maybe it broke, and are replacing it until all three systems have hit the market at once to make their next-gen decision.

Besides, if you're going out and spending 130 for a system, plus a memory card, plus a couple games (lets say it rounds out to about 250 not including tax). That doesn't seem like such a great difference in price from that to a 360 (lower rate system that sells for 300), not too mention that it has the next-gen factor for a very little price difference.

Based on this article Microsoft is now making money on the 360. So hopefully next year they can give us a price break.

iSuppli breakdown pegs cost of manufacturing $499 20GB console at $805, $599 60GB console at $840.

"Though it had no breakdown of the Wii, this week's iSuppli study did comment on the cost of another next-gen console. Thanks to streamlined processes and ample component supplies, iSuppli estimates that Microsoft now makes $75.70 per Xbox 360 console."

Nintendo and Sony are making more from the DS and the PS2, respectively, than MS is from the 360 despite their lower price tags due to selling at a profit. MS just has reservoirs of cash from which to draw to support the 360 until it stops being a loss leader.

According to this article, Sony is also losing money on their PS3.

If Sony is only getting 400,000 units out on launch, they should have started the price at $2,000. There's a terrific chance they would have sold all of them by launch, and then they could drop the price to $600 thereafter. :y4:

The masses are always one step behind the technology and the first adoptive leaders in the gaming world. It has nothing to do with the 360 being "overpriced" whatsoever. It's just that the old generation will still be popular with the money-challenged Walmart crowd until the companies themselves pretty much move on to the next generation and they have no choice but to go up a level.

And as for the 360 price drop, once Sony announced their ridiculous prices that was DOA. If you are waiting for the price drop to buy a 360 then you will be waiting a long time.

              Bingo.

at least $1000...heck, they are all going to wind up selling for close to that on ebay anyway, since I'd guess 1/2 the people buying them are doing so to sell them.
