would i have to back up all my stuff? Can't I just keep my hard drive?

Re: 360 Warrany ? - what would you do?

I bought mine in August from Best Buy and am glad I bought the replacement plan. My unit barely lasted 2 months. The video card crapped out on it and I was getting no display. It started where every other time i turned it on, I would just get a black screen. I thought it was the cable at first so I switched it out, but it came to the point where all I was getting was a black screen no matter how many times I restarted it.

MS may be able to fix it, but it darn sure is a lot easier to box it up and get a brand new one the same day than to try and ship it across the country to get fixed.

These things have been breaking left and right on people and that has happened to many people here at OS that baby the sh* t out of their system. I hope your system never breaks man, but if it does you have a warranty.

I just really think that by saying if the system breaks you will still regret having spent $40 for the warranty, is insane. What, would you rather spend $400 then to buy another one.

Take it in, get a new 360 and a new warranty. With this system, you never can tell if and when it will break. I got mine at the end of January this year, but it just died on me about 3 weeks ago (I don't play online, so I don't download any content from the marketplace). Got a black screen everytime I played any game. Glad a bought a Product Replacement Plan from Best Buy. Took it right back and walked out with a new unit in 15 minutes. I did have to buy a new replacement plan, but for the next 2 years I have peace of mind that if anything happens I can either get a new 360 or get store credit (maybe by then the PS3's will be easier to get).

You have to understand what I am trying to say, if the system breaks because of something from MS, then they HAVE to fix it for free. Unless the system breaks because of "your" carelessness(is that even a word) then you don't need a warranty.

              So, what ARE you saying?

If you are driving a BMW and the engine falls out, that's BMW's fault and they will replace the car at no cost?

Maybe some people like to throw their 360s around the living room or something, but mine sits on a shelf untouched. The only contact i have with it is to push the button to open the disc tray. So, what you are saying is that 6months, 1 year, 2 years down the road, if your 360 dies because of a "Microsoft" problem, then they'll just fix the box for free?

Sorry, still don't get your point. All I know is I can't wait to read the thread you start when you are cursing MS.

^ This is the best I can do for you,

The manufacturer or seller of a product will be liable for breach of warranty if the product is not fit or safe to be operated as intended. A breach of warranty may occur if there was an error in the design of the product, if it was put together poorly, or if the components installed on the or used in the assembly of the product did not perform properly.

My 360 has been acting up lately, I'm thinking of bringing it in before my warranty expires on the 22nd.

Do I have to turn in my HDD too? If so, I'll just copy my important stuff to my memory card.

Mine was 11 months in, only three or four freezes and it broke down a couple weeks before the warranty expired. Went in to GS, got a new 360 and a new warranty.

                    Why take the chance man?

And this would be proved how in this situation? We are talking about a video game system, not a car or other type of machine.

Bates, Acid.. you can keep your HDD when you do the exchange, and everything else will be smooth. I would personally do the exchange.

Only bad thing that happens, if you have any silver accounts, they no longer will have access to any XBL Arcade games you've previously purchased, as well as you won't have access to them when not connected to Live. It sucks, but there's no work around either.

Does anyone know if Microsofts warranty is limitless? IF he returns it does he have to buy a new warranty of can he transfer it.

An expensive video game system. We bought this thing why? To play games, when it stops doing that less then a year in because of something MS did or did not do they are liable to fix it, it is that easy. I know this for a fact.

While I agree with your frustration and everyone who owns a 360, in no way can MS be held liable. Three reasons why.

                            1) Not a safety issue.....(See Sony's Exploding Batteries)
                            2) Microsoft did not intentionally design the product to break early so as to buy another system.
                            3) Buyer protection aka extended warranty

Also MS has given gamers the benefit of the doubt and extended the warranty to 1 year.

EG answered this already, but I will throw my 2 cents in. Best Buy specifically asked for my HD. I am sure if I made an issue about it I could have kept it.
