Re: PS3 Impressions
I've given up where to place this, here you go:

PlayStation 3 Turns Gamers into Hooligans
Short tempers, stampedes and guns marked the U.S. debut of the PlayStation 3. What would people do to get a PS3?
Two armed robbers approached a line of 20 people waiting outside a Wal-Mart store in Putnam, Connecticut. When Michael Penkala refused to give his money to the two gunmen, the assaulters shoot him. Luckily, Penkala is in stable condition.
Only 30 miles away, another buyer was robbed of his new PlayStation 3 just minutes after he bought it at a store in Manchester
AFP reports that on Wednesday police had to shut down a Wal-Mart store in the southern California city of Palmdale after a restless crowd of nearly 100 people turned rowdy.
CNN reports that in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a teenager was also robbed of his new PlayStation 3 by a man who tapped on his car window with a handgun and in Lexington, Kentucky, someone fired BB pellets from a passing vehicle at people waiting outside a Best Buy store.
The Associated Press got reports from police departments around the country informing similar situations; two people were arrested in Fresno, California, after a crowd trampled people in a parking lot. Two young men were assaulted in Sullivan, Indiana, by two teens after waiting for 36 hours at a Super Wal-Mart.
"They were unloading their PS3s from their car when two teens approached them carrying a chain and a tire iron and demanding their consoles", told Sullivan Police Chief David Story to AP.
We are starting to think that playing too much Grand Theft Auto games is really affecting PlayStation fanboys’ minds.Comment

Re: PS3 Impressions
Well, I kept mine.
So far, I've played some Resistance and watched Mission Impossible III. First of all, both look outstanding in 720p. I'm more excited about the Blu-Ray capabilities of the PS3 than the gaming capabilities (for now), so the first thing I did was pop in MI:3. It looks and sounds phenomenal. It's also worth noting that the PS3 runs theater-quiet and can be used in a home theater with no sound impact. I'm running it through HDMI cables using the optical audio out and it works great.
Resistance also looks good, but I admittedly haven't played it much so far. The cut scenes and player modeling look really good so far and the ambient sound effects as you're running down the street are very good. The graphics look a little bit bland to me so far, but that's likely just the initial in-game environment. The gameplay is totally smooth so far - no framerate hiccups at all. I registered for my online account, but haven't taken the game online yet.
Other things....
People say the controller feels cheap. It's definitely a whole lot lighter than the 360 controller, but it doesn't feel like it's going to crumble in my hands or anything. I never really liked the Dual Shock controller, but I don't have any problems with this one. Initially I didn't like the new triggers on this one, but I'm getting used to them.
My expectations for the launch of a new console are always low. Right now I have one good game and a Blu-Ray player capable of playing HD movies in stunning 720p with DTS-HD decoding. That, imo, is worth the money. To me, the user interface of the 360 feels....sticky. Everything on the 360 has a clunky feel to me and there are lots of delays even while you're simply flipping from blade to blade on your own console. The PS3 interface is much smoother, much cleaner, and much less clunky. That, to me, is a big deal. The 360 always has a feeling of, "Gee I hope this works." I think that once the PS3 gets its initial bugs out of its system much like the 360 had to do, I will enjoy using it more from a user interface standpoint.
Those impressions are kind of scattershot, but there you go. I kept it, I'm happy I did, and I'm going to Best Buy tomorrow to buy a few more Blu-Ray discs while I wait for the good games to start coming out. To me, the console has a lot of potential and I like the way it looks and feels so far.Last edited by Skerik; 11-18-2006, 12:15 AM.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: PS3 Impressions
The title on this thread is very misleading, I just wasted 8 minutes of my life surfing through this thread hoping to see some impressions.
And no you'll never catch me camping out in front of an electronic store waiting for a video game, so no, I don't have one. Get back at me around the time of the launch for MGS4 (whenever that is).
EDIT: HEEYY Skerik thanks for the impressions! I wanna know how Resistance is online! I hear that's one of its strong points.
