Right now I'm playing my PS3 on an old TV while I wait for my HDMI cables but I'm getting white horizontal stripes on my screen that move up and down the screen. Even if the PS3 isnt on but its still connected to the input via the component cables, the black screen has those white stripes too. Its never been like that for my PS2, does anyone know why?

Re: PS3 Impressions, part three
What do you mean by reseating the connector? I've taken it out and put it back in and jiggled it around a few times and theres no change. Even when I jiggle it with it still in the white lines keep the same constant motion up and down my screen.
They dont ruin the game exprience but they are really annoying and noticable. It kinda makes lthe spot the line is on look like its popping out of the screen a bit or floating sort of.Last edited by deeman11747; 11-23-2006, 09:31 PM.

Re: PS3 Impressions, part three
Did you check to make sure you had a good connection in the back of the PS3 as well? Also how about trying the composite cables that came with the system?Comment

Re: PS3 Impressions, part three
Yeah when I disconnect them the screen is a normal black. Not good, since I'm not always going to be able to play on my HDTV.

Re: PS3 Impressions, part three
I'm prob gonna pick up some component cables tomorrow to see if that makes a difference...if it doesnt I'm going to assume theres a faulty connection in the port on the back of the PS3 but I'll wait and see.
Thanks guys

Thanks guysI was basing my answers with the understanding your problem was from using component cables.
It makes sense now you could be getting some kind of weird frequency interference from the Sony composite cables.
Try a pair of [/b]Sony brand component cables[/] and let us know if it fixed the problem.Comment

Anyways...I got my HDMI Cable and tried Resistance and NBA 2k7 on my HDTV. In 720 p Resistance is gorgeous and NBA 2k7 is even better. Now my only issue is with the sound.
I have an audio receiver which outputs my sound into a 5 speaker surround sound. With the HDMI cable I only get sound out of the TV itself while from the audio receiver I hear the TV channel on the other intput.
I need to figure out how to replace the TV station audio coming out of the receiver with the PS3 audio. I messed around with the settings on the PS3 and I couldnt get anything. Then I tried hooking up the white and red composite cables from the PS3 directly int the back of the receiver and changing the input to match that slot (and also changing the PS3's audio settings to composite cables, but there's no change. The only sound I can get from the PS3 is from the TV itself and coming out of my surround sound speakers is the TV station tha the cable box is on on the other input.
I know that was pretty unclear and no one has knowledge of my audio/TV setup but if anyone has any ideas (especially you Rodster..I know I'm a pain in the *** with all of my questions) I'd love the help.
Thanks fellas.

Re: PS3 Impressions, part three
Spent quite a bit of time with the PS3 today at my brother's house. Unfortunately, I am bigtime negative on it.
Nothing really big bothered me, just an accumulation of little things. First, I never realized how much I enjoy the rumble in the controller. Resistance lost some of its edge with the lack of vibration.
Being a 360 guy, I was uberly disappointed on anything that had to do with online gaming. Nothing seemed to be streamlined and it just felt really disorganized to me.
I played about 10 games, and since I played most of them already on the 360, I was not really impressed with anything. Resistance was a really good game, but it did not blow me away at any point.
From a launch standpoint, I can't think of a worse launch than the titles PS3 released.
All in all, I was pretty disappointed in everything except the BluRay. Though Ricky Bobby is not a very good transfer, the movies I checked out looked great.
Since games are so expensive to produce, the days of many "system exclusive" days are pretty much over except for a few and of course 1st party games. Because of this, I don't see myself actually buying a PS3.
However, if BluRay somehow wins and wins in the near future, which it appears this battle will last for quite sometime, I would get a PS3 in a heartbeat. But until then or if it even happens, I think at this point the PS3 has been a monumental disappointment. Everything just felt rushed. IMOComment

Re: PS3 Impressions, part three
I got my PS3 on Wednesday, but have yet to open it due to the impressions on this board. I probably will sell on Ebay. But I do disagree with the launch. For a person who does not have a next gen console, then the PS3 is probably one of the best launches ever. But for us 360 owners, we already have the games and the only good one we do not have is Resistance.
I ordered a set of Sony component cables which should arrive this week. I'm on the fence whether to take it back to EB and put the full amount on a EB card and wait till March when the real games start showing up.Comment
