Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
Just like what Sony did to Nintendo when they withdrew their CD based drive from the SNES.Those points are all true and my brother had a dreamcast. It was fun but the sheer power of the system didn't quite measure up to the PS2 iirc. I truly think that if EA supported the system, it would have been a good success. Not having Madden for the general consumer (as well as other EA games) really hurt.
Further memory testing has me thinking MS screwed with Sega as well since I had read they were working with them on the Dreamcast to push it out together only to have MS withdraw and decide to do it themselves with the XBox. The fact the Dreamcast let you play over dial-up connections without much lag was very impressive as well.
I loved the DC so much that I had both an Asian and US consoles to play domestic/import games. Once the US version was cracked for import playing, I played my import games on there and sold the Asian version.
Yes, not having EA on board for 2 generations in a row hurt SEGA. EA Saturn support was terrible and it all started from there.Comment

In what way? Both were/are 128-bit systems, and the DC had the hardware advantages I listed previously.

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
I'm having a really good time with my DS Lite, Candy, so the Wii isn't in my immediate plans. If I was to buy a console again, it would be the 360 because of the great Xbox Live online experience and because the 360 is filled with realistic military shooters and racing sims, my two favorite console genres.I agree with you PK, the DC was a system to reckon with. Since we have spoken about the DC and how much you have liked it, I highly recommend you pickup a Wii. I'll talk you into it eventually. That innovation that the DC brought to the table back in '99 is being replicated with the Wii here in '06. The only thing right now that I really hate with Nintendo is their network for downloading VC games, there are some issues when trying to connect.
The "quirky" games on the DS Lite are really fun, though. Games like Brain Age, Trauma Center, etc. I would rather have a 360 to satisfy my "traditional" gaming jones and keep the DS Lite for portable, quirky gaming with a unique interface.
Take care,

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
DC was/is worth having just for Test Drive Le Mans. I think it still holds up today.

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
It just wasn't as powerful in terms of sheer numbers and polygon producing counts (http://www.streettech.com/archives_gadget/DCvsPS2.html). Of course the Dreamcast was much easier to program for and than can make up some differences. The fact the Dreamcast was released a year earlier probably also hurt its specs. I'm not positive but I do remember thinking Madden '01 on the PS2 looked better than 2K1 on the Dreamcast. The lighting was better but its been awhile.Comment

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
All valid points. But I'll take the superior anti-aliasing of the DC over the PS2 instead of its slightly inferior graphics. The jaggie-fest on the PS2 drove me nuts.It just wasn't as powerful in terms of sheer numbers and polygon producing counts (http://www.streettech.com/archives_gadget/DCvsPS2.html). Of course the Dreamcast was much easier to program for and than can make up some differences. The fact the Dreamcast was released a year earlier probably also hurt its specs. Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
I thought bits didn't mean anything since PSX era? The PS2 had a hardware advantage over the DC, but it's not about specs. DC just had some ****ing fun games man, just an amazing library of games not to mention the greatest launch of any system ever.Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.Comment

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
Again, what was the hardware advantage? You cats are saying the PS2 had a hardware advantage, but you're giving no specifics. I outlined specific reasons why I think the DC hardware is superior.
I'm curious to see your specifics.

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
Just read the link I poster earlier PK. The PS2 could push 16 million polygons per second compared to 3 million on the DS. Graphics should be and were better that way. The DS had some advantages but the PS2 was superior in some areas without question. I know when I played Madden '01, the lighting and in particular how it reflected off helmuts etc. was better than what they could do for 2K1. I just felt Madden '01 was the better game graphics wise AND gameplay wise at the time. I traded in 2K1 because of it.Comment

Re: New Dreamcast Game Announced
I will say that the Dreamcast was the nicest looking current gen machine out there and may still be the nicest looking machine out there. It almost seems as if the Wii and 360 copied the Dreamcast's clean look. The 4 controller ports and VMU were two great additions to the Dreamcast.Comment
