    New Dreamcast Game Announced

    New Dreamcast Game Announced
Japan won't let the dream go.

The Dreamcast appeared to have died an early death at the hands of the evil PlayStation 2 some three years back, but there's still some signs of life left in the first last generation console. A popular arcade site reports today that Japanese publisher Warashi will be porting its arcade shooter Trigger Heart Exelica to the system.

Trigger Heart is a vertical scrolling shooter that makes use of a three button system, one button for shooting, one for releasing a bomb, and one for using an "anchor shot." The anchor shot allows you to capture enemies in the air and lock on to enemies on the ground. When you've captured an enemy, you enter "capture mode," and can move it around and release it as a special type of bomb.

This presumably final Dreamcast game will hit Japanese retail on 2/22/2007, eight years and three months after the system was first released to Japan.

First the Genesis, now the Dreamcast. As a former Sega enthuasist, I love it.

All we need now is an ambitious group to truly tap into the Saturn's power, but since it was a monstrous pain in the *** to develop for, I doubt it. I miss the hell out of that second six button Saturn pad. VERY comfortable for Street Fighter Alpha 1 & 2.

I need to get the cables so that I can start to even play. Man, I wonder why other companies didn't copy the VMU thing. That was the most awesome thing ever when you'd be playing and the little screen would say things on it. I do miss the joy of that system.

Do I miss the DC, it died too soon here in the US.

They tried. Sony had the Japanese-only Pocketstation.

I agree, the VMU was great. The health pulse in Resident Evil Code Veronica, animations (Swish, etc.) on NBA 2K, multiplayer play-calling screen for NFL 2K, etc. Good times.

The Dreamcast was the most enjoyable system I've owned or played, and I go back to the Atari 2600 days.

                  Take care,

What can you say about the Dreamcast? I mean, it was before its time. It truly was. I honestly believe that system pioneered online console gaming. Maybe the Saturn did too, didn't that have some network capabilities?
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Dreamcast was an awesome system and a good example of a console that was destroyed by hype, the Sony hype machine. Once that got rolling and they started pulling 3rd party developers exclusively to the PS2 it was over. It's a damn shame too, b\c the Dreamcast may have been a better console ... We'll never know now.

From a hardware standpoint, the Dreamcast was a better console than the PS2, for so many reasons:

                        1. Better anti-aliasing, so fewer jaggies.
                        2. Four controller ports.
                        3. VMU.
                        4. First-party support for mouse, keyboard and fishing reel controller.
                        5. Smaller size, at least compared to the original PS2.
                        6. Better reliability because it didn't have a disc tray. It was a top-loading system.

                        Take care,

I agree with you PK, the DC was a system to reckon with. Since we have spoken about the DC and how much you have liked it, I highly recommend you pickup a Wii. I'll talk you into it eventually. That innovation that the DC brought to the table back in '99 is being replicated with the Wii here in '06. The only thing right now that I really hate with Nintendo is their network for downloading VC games, there are some issues when trying to connect.

Well we can pretty much blame EA for the demise of the Dreamcast. Yet another evil they forced upon the gaming world.

Those points are all true and my brother had a dreamcast. It was fun but the sheer power of the system didn't quite measure up to the PS2 iirc. I truly think that if EA supported the system, it would have been a good success. Not having Madden for the general consumer (as well as other EA games) really hurt.

Further memory testing has me thinking MS screwed with Sega as well since I had read they were working with them on the Dreamcast to push it out together only to have MS withdraw and decide to do it themselves with the XBox. The fact the Dreamcast let you play over dial-up connections without much lag was very impressive as well.
