Re: We're paying $200 extra dollars for what again?
Still, many people want the PS3 simply for gaming, not high-def movie watching, so in that regard, I can see why some might be upset that they have to pay $500 - $600, when if Bluray was not included, it could have been alot cheaper.Comment

Including Bluray makes the PS3 more than somewhat reasonable, it makes it an extreme bargain, considering the cheapest standalone Bluray players run for $1000.

Again for the people that want just gaming and don't want the extras, this system isn't for you.
But would that mean Sony is turning their back on a loyal section of their fanbase? I mean their last console, PS2, was gaming first and gaming second, and was pretty much available to everyone. But now it seems that they have gone in a different direction altogether..
You make good points though..Comment

Re: We're paying $200 extra dollars for what again?
Everyone here might have thought that, but the main stream consumer actually thinks they are going to get better graphics/games with a PS3. I have quite a few friends who are casual gamers. From what they've read in the newspaper and seen on TV, they all think the XBox 360 is a 2nd rate machine and that the PS3 is really a hell of a lot better.
Same here. My bro and my freind want a PS3 for some unexplainable reasons. I guess the commonly thrown around phrase "its more powerful than the 360" is the determining point. When I've told them on many occasions that the games will mainly be neck and neck.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: We're paying $200 extra dollars for what again?
My boys are just about the same way. This guy was throwing down Blu Ray at me but couldn't explain what in the heck it was. I told him about all the great stuff that I could do with my XBOX 360, yet they continually said the PS brand was and would forever be more powerful. It's just unexplainable just like how mainstream mindless music keeps selling out the butt but the quality stuff isn't even acknowledged.......Comment

I would'nt say they're turning thier back so to speak. Its moreso like they're tryna seperate themselves from the competition. Adding a Blue-Ray player is more of an incentive than moving in a completely diffrent direction. If a Blue-Ray player or any of the other techie gizmos were'nt added and the price point matched the 360s, there wouldn't really be any reason to justify owning one. Especially given MS had a year head start on them.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Not to mention the 40GB of extra space, and complete WiFi capabilities out of the box. Again for the people that want just gaming and don't want the extras, this system isn't for you. Right now I have a 360 and love it, but will look to add a PS3 to that list come Spring.
I was ready to purchase a ps3, but i dont want to pay for the blue ray player which i will never use. Hell i barely watch dvd's.
The fact that the PS3 is no longer a gaming system first and foremost is what people are complaining about.Comment

You do understand though that is seems that Sony is alienating their gamer base simply to include the blue ray option?

Holy thread ressurection Batman!!
Bacardi, I thought the Blue Ray disc also allowed for more space for developers to use to create games. Or is that just some marketing ploy?Excuse my late ignorance, I haven't really been following the discussions lately.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
