well again, dvd-r's and burners are widely available and cheap, yet both DVD and game sales are still solid. It's a given that eventually HD-DVD and bluray will be priated, but the important thing is how it actually affects sales.

I totally agree. They make it seem like we are to blame for everything when they are still making profit and probably laughing behind everything.

Xbox 360 already has a way to pirate without a mod chip, but I won't say anything else. So what's all the fuss about sony's problems?

Well no one knows if they'll be able to burn them onto blank Blu Ray DVDs yet.

Not that it'll bother me if someone figures out a way to. That just guarantees my purchase of a BluRay player (do I have to elaborate)

Sony be doing this stuff on the low. They made PSP hackable on purpose, and they knew damn well that if you made it possible to install Linux on to this machine then it was gonna get hacked. I mean, people were talking about this a year before PS3 came out!!!

Get this. The majority of people here may look down on piracy, but think about the people in the real world. "Hey did you know you can burn DVDs on PS3?" And that's just the beginning.

BluRay DVDs themselves will sell as much as albums do these days. But PS3s will sell like crazy (Most likely more than PS2).

well they already have blu-ray burners and I don't doubt those underground techies at all because they know how to hack just about anything.

Good points ICT, and i'll add that the majority of gamers are honest and pay for their games. IMO and it has been stated many times that what helped the Xbox sell systems and make inroads in the video game market was a) Xbox Live and b) modding the system. Although Microsoft will never admit to that.

A system sale is just that and developers look at sale numbers and not who bought it for piracy or not.

Why would making a HD-DVD drive external matter for piracy when DVDs are already able to be ripped and burned.
That's why M$ is so freaking rich. They think ahead, they never commit until it's a clear profit for themselves, and they freaking keep the gate wide open for both formats.

The other reason MS is so rich is because they tend to listen and respond to their customers. The S-Controller and the new size of the 360 are perfect examples of MS giving their customers what they want.

                            hmmm

well they turned the ps3 controller from the boomerang back to the dual shock and gave us motion control..minus the rumble.

                            oh wait, that sucks.

well how easy is it to rip a xbox game and then burn it and play it like nothing you need a modded xbox to do that if you don't need to mod you ps3 to play a burned bd-r then it will affect sales trust me

and nobody but Sony knows if they have the exact same restrictions they have in place on other consoles for DVD burning. You're right that you can't burn a DVD disk of a game and play it without some work. Now why wouldn't it be the same for the ps3, especially when Sony makes bluray burners themselves, so they know it's coming.

This stuff is just initial testing, as it's too expensive for common people to pirate bluray disks.
