wtf do you guys do to your consoles? Wrap them in blankets? Play them more than 8 hours a day?

When was the last time you had to upgrade the ram on your console or you couldn't play Gears of War?

Anyways, not to slam on PC gaming, I don't want to see it die either, but to post a thread implying that PC gaming is an easier way to game than consoles and has less issues is way off the mark. Perhaps the upcoming Vista will even the overall playing field but so far consoles have always been way ahead in ease of use in respect to issues such as have been brought up in this thread.
      Never said it was easy.
Easily 20+ years of PC gaming here and enough peripherals to fill a warehouse! Wheels....joysticks...gamepads....I HAVE A FRIGGIN' GOLF CLUB PERIPHERAL for Christ's sake. I can count the number of times on ONE HAND that I couldn't get a game or something to finally work. Sure...by then I wanted to heave the whole lot out the window and never play games again....but I have NEVER had a computer totally crap out on me.

I was just pointing out...that before we really had big console gaming...we had a GREAT gaming platform right on our desks. Consoles were supposed to "end" or frustration of all the different configurations being just what you stated.....but it's almost come full circle in a way. That's all I was getting across.

That and I always though games were better on a PC. Better graphics...easier patching and modding(non existant on the consoles really, right?)

Sorry man, but I've had 2 consoles brick on me, and I always take very good care of pretty much everything I own. Both of my 360's have never been moved, or dropped. Always been in open space, and they still got the red lights of death. And no, I don't play my Xbox 360 8 hours a day, more like 8-10 hours a week. Theres just a large number of faulty consoles out there.

So weird and yet my launch unit is still going.

I'm getting worried because my warranty is up in Feb and the system shows no signs of quitting, i.e no lockups or weird problems.

If they had read their Wii manuals, they wouldn't have had this problem.

My launch system never gave me any signs up quitting, til I went to boot it up one day, and it froze on the Xbox 360 logo, then three flashing lights. My replacement unit from MS was doomed from the get go. Opened the box up, and it had a slightly cracked casing. Didn't take too long for it to start to freeze, and freeze, and freeze. Guess it didn't help, it had a manufactored date of 10-26-2005. So it was a launch console as well that had been refurbished.

I guess I've been fortunate. I'd love to see the return numbers from Microsoft.

The picture of the wii+blanket is hilarious.

They've gotta be high like 35%, that's just my guess. You have a pic for the wii+blanket cause I haven't seen it.

Man, I'm scared because my 360 has been carried up and down, left and right. Haven't dropped it that I can remember. I can definitely say that I'm scared as heck because of what will inevitably happen. Do you guys have it horizontal or vertical? I changed mines and it has rans so smooth horizontal. I wonder if that's a factor?? And that blanket over the Wiicube is classic.

Honestly, I don't think it matters if your console is horizontal, or vetical. My first 360 was always horizontal, the second one I decided to move into my bedroom vertical. They both crapped out on me, so take your pick.

I would assume most people here had heard about the problems with the 360's prior to purchasing one and should have bought the warranty. If you got one on launch and did not get the warranty then you can only blame yourself for not being smart enough to realize that with new products there will always be problems.

if you got one at launch, even if it breaks, you can send it back to microsoft for a 'new' console paying only shipping. As long as the born on date is '05. As for me, my launch 360 is still chuggin along *knocks on wood* It's on probably 3-4 hours a day between me and my roommate.
