That's too funny... i'm in the same boat as you and my wife did the EXACT same thing! She has been torturing me with it ever since it arrived. She's a clever one, and has been able to get me to do some extra chores around the house by threatening to sell it on ebay.
      LET'S GO FLYERS, YANKEES, DOLPHINS!!!

          A Parents perspective

Picked this up around lunch time today, before heading into work (4pm - Midnight). I got to play it for about 30 minutes and it was incredibly fun. The rest of the time was dominated by my 3 year old daughter trashing her new virtual bedroom.

Not to put too fine a point on things...this game is a gem for sure.

To give you a little perspective, my 3yo has never really dabbled in gaming, for obvious reasons...we feared her too young. She mimics my wife and I on our 2 PC's, moving the mouse around...laughing etc, but honestly she has yet to grasp the concept of what she is really doing with the PC. We partially got the Wii for her to play with, figuring she could wrap her tiny hands, and mind, around the games targeted at younger audiences. She loves playing with our Mii's (we made 10 for our family including grandparents etc etc), but hasn't been able to enjoy the Wii as much as we had hoped....until now.

While she has begun to get used to Wii Sports, she was able to pick Elebits right up and just start playing. Her favorite thing to do with our Mii's was to pick them up and make them wiggle around....how quickly she figured out that was a central gameplay mechanic in Elebits. I played a quick round in the bedroom level to show her what the basic gist of the game was, and off she went.

I sat back and watched her actually complete the 1st level on her 2nd attempt (you have to get a certain amount of wattage to go to the next level) and quickly realised Elebits, along with the Wii...were the best impulse purchases I have made all year. I had done little research before purchasing, and it was literally a "hey, let's check this thing out" deal when I bought it. Anyhow, she literally spent all day, according to my wife, either playing the game as intended...or simply trashing her new virtual bedroom / house. The most important thing about the entire situation is that there has been a constant stream of laughter coming from our basement all afternoon. My 1yo son has enjoyed it so far as well, dancing along with the music while my daughter looks for more "booo bits".

My wife played a few boards and was also instantly hooked. Her jumping into the game is even more odd than my daughter...she simply does not play games, she puts up with my addiction but has never understood why myself...and a large percentage of my generation...are so involved in gaming. The Wii has also effectively gotten her back into gaming as well (she loved SNES, thats how far back you would have to go to find games she enjoyed).

From what I have read at other boards, the game gets much more complex than simply wiggling boxes and zapping elebits. There are boss battles, elebits that fight back, zero gravity rooms, zero gravity rooms where you can't make any noise...rooms where you can only break a certian number of items etc. It all adds up to a game that is far from complex, but has what matters most.

As my daughter said to me before I left for work..."daddy, I luv this game...its just tooooo fun, thanks"

          My sentiments exactly.

Well, I went to Circuit City and they A) Didn't take back my Marvel Alliance w/o a receipt, and B) Didn't have Elebits in stock.

So I went to Target and A) They took it back and gave me store credit that had to be used that day, but B) didn't have Elebits in stock.

I just got an extra Wiimote and Nunchuck instead, but I want this game! Thanks for the impressions, CptvObvious!

              CptObvious,

Awesome impressions. I have an almost 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter. I'm always looking for a game that they can grasp and enjoy.

This could possibly be one of them. It's worth a shot!
