    Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3)

Virtua Fighter 5 Ship Date a Reality

Today SEGA announced Virtua Fighter 5 will ship February 20, 2007 in North America for the PlayStation 3. Complementing the North American release of the latest in this long-running fighting franchise, SEGA Europe has confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 will be a launch title for the PS3 in Europe.

"Virtua Fighter 5 will be the first martial arts style fighting game available on the PlayStation 3 system with brand new offensive moves, customizable characters, stunning graphics, and highly detailed 3D fighting environments," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America.

Developed by AM2 out of Japan (the team behind countless classics like OutRun, Space Harrier, and Shenmue), Virtua Fighter 5 is one of the most anticipated PS3 titles for 2007.

Now we're talking the best fighting series with the best AI. I still love Tekken but the VF series is still my favorite. Can't wait to take it online.

The Virtua Fighter series has taken over the Tekken series imo. Tekken has been kinda stale the last version, but VF keeps on plugging along with adding new things to the gameplay + the home version modes.

The thing I've always liked about the VF series is that it tends to be based more on realism. You don't see as much over the top moves like you do in DOA or Tekken.

In VF4 Evo some of the VF masters had their AI implemented in the game. It gets real challenging and out right humiliating when you get schooled by some of the best who play the game.

I still like Tekken a little better. VF has gotten a little too complex and precise for my tired old fingers. Same with DOA4...those seem to be for hardcore fighter guys, and I feel totally when I play either. Tekken and Soul Calibur are more my speed...call it strategic button mashing. Little less realistic, but they don't require as much finger pre-programming and I've always loved Tekkens storylines.

Damn I used to love VF2 on the saturn. Wolf and Lei

Gotta see the movie, Rod...it was pretty good. The anime tied most of the endings up pretty well for the Mishima Clan, and the individual endings have established continuity through all 5 games, like the relationships between Nina and Anna, Law and Paul etc.

A Tekken movie just started production this fall, Jet Li is speculated to appear.

Which Tekken was this in cause I must've missed it? I've owned Tekken 3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 4, and Tekken 5 and never saw a movie.

Rod, where you been bro! LOL!

All of the Tekken games are based around the Iron Fist Tournament, and the opening FMV for each game kind of explains the story, but not through words, through visuals about each character. With Tekken 5, Namco went with a bit of a different approach to tell the story via stills.

                            Tekken 5
"The main single-player mode of play in Tekken 5 is the story mode. This mode takes you through a handful of fights, starting with some still frames and voice-over to help you understand what each individual fighter is fighting for. Along the way, you'll square off with some fighters that are tied to that story, giving you some pre- and post-fight dialogue. When you reach the story's conclusion, you are given some static screens with text and a full-fledged, prerendered ending for each character. Tekken's prerendered endings have always been one of the most memorable aspects of the series, and this collection of occasionally serious but often hilarious endings are among the series' best. It's a fun look at the characters that you don't normally get in the context of a fighting game, and helps give the impression that whoever made Tekken 5 must have had a lot of fun along the way."

Um....thought Jet Li already performed in his last movie? It's the one where he's battling against the kingdom in some tournament I assume. If he's making a comeback already, then I'm surprised. When is the Tekken movie date? VF is only on PS? I remember playing it back in the day. I like Tekken a bit more because the moves are more precise. Haven't played VF since the 90s I believe on the arcade cabinet. I'm a little out of date. DOA franchise is too dumbed down for me too. The buttons do too much in the game. It's like a button masher's dream. Not what I'm into. I need to definitely get back into fighting games again.
