    Re: What equals "Next Gen"?

To me next gen equals new experiences. Whether it be graphical, ways of playing games, or the system's navigation system.

The 360's interface is mind-blowing. It didn't take long for me to not be able to go back to the original Xbox after becoming entrenched in the 360's interface. Any time I put in a bc game I feel like I've been neutered since I don't have all of the options of the 360 at my disposal.

Games like Dead Rising which floods the screen with zombies = next gen to me. A game like that just wasn't possible on the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube.

The graphics of Gears of War = next gen to me. I've never seen a better looking game in my life.

The Wiimote and nunchuk are next gen. The technology might not be new but it is in the realm of consoles. It's quite cool too.

      Re: What equals "Next Gen"?

Is the graphical power for the Wii any better than for the GameCube? Sorry... I was just wondering.

I'll admit, I'm a graphics whore. I won't buy a craptastic game if it just has great graphics, but at the same time I also won't buy a good playing game when a Gargoyle looks like a unicorn.

        Re: What equals "Next Gen"?

The Wii is the most next gen of any of the systems. Look at the advancements in gaming that it has provided. That is truly next generational.

There has never been a system before that could take your movements and translate that into gameplay on the screen.
I'll agree with that although it should be "I think its any system that advances significantly on current technology". The Wii doesn't meet that criteria in terms of graphics but novel gameplay and innovation. Improving technology or horsepower are old ways to describe next-gen. Innovation is the new way to describe it.

Really though, who really cares what "next gen" means or if it qualifies to a Wii or any other system. Some people just look at it as when a system is released compared to older ones. Either way the only thing that matters is if the games are improved enough to get people to buy the system and have fun.

System specs aren't even the reason as to why some systems will fail. It doesn't matter if its "next gen" or not. Price points and third party support are huge as well. The Nintendo DS has inferior graphics to the PSP and is not as powerful yet is selling twice as well as the PSP. This is due to its innovative dual screen with touch sensitivity along with voice recognition and hand writing software that makes for a great system.

The entire "next-gen" description is changing. In the past we had 8 bit systems so the new 16 bit was next-gen. Then 32 bit, 64 bit, etc. However, every one of those leaps to "next-gen" was based on horsepower and the ability to produce great graphics. We are no longer seeing massive improvements in graphics and what will "next gen" mean after the PS3 and the 360 are five years old? Graphical improvements will be minimal so how do you improve upon them? Innovation will define next-gen more than horsepower in the future and based on that you could make the argument that the Wii is the best fit for that description. But does anyone really care? You buy a system and you play it.

Then that guy is an idiot and shouldn't be marketing his product. From a business point of view, that is the dumbest thing to ever say. Because in reality, buyers have three options. Wii, PS3, 360. By coming out and saying something idiotic like that, you just took away so many of your sales.

              Dude should be fired.

Why isn't it? The use of the wiimote has revolutionized gaming. While other companies focused on enhancing graphics, Nintendo focused on innovation, and how you play the games.

Next-Gen isn't just graphics. Some people fail to realize that.

I sure do cause in all seriousness, if Nintendo wanted to, the Wiimote and Nunchuk could of been released for the Gamecube as an accessory. Thats just my take on it.

I agree with the man who browses OS in the nude. I'm biased because I couldn't care less about the Wiimote and Nunchuk. As a matter of fact, that's what annoyed me with the PS3, when they sort of added something close to it.

I hardly believe that Reggie would say that. Maybe if you are looking for the best graphics, but not most next gen.

To mii, the Wii is the most next gen system there is. The 360 added achievements and graphics. The PS3 stole, err, added motion controls, blu ray and graphics. The Wii added motion, innovation, etc. Play a full game of Madden on the Wii and try to tell me that's not cool and that EA didn't put more time into that version than the 360 or PS3 versions.

And no one posted anything about it, nor said a thing about it on any gaming website? If Reggie said skip the Wii because it's not next gen, that would be major gaming news. Sorry, but it wasn't said that way.

I bet you will own a Wii eventually after you tire with the PS3, then back to the 360.
