I would go with Vegas.

Your teammates are smarter in Vegas, the cover system is better, online is better, and single player campaign is longer.

Gears has better graphics and the most badass weapon in videogame history.

It depends, If you prefer more tactical realism (like I do) go with Rainbow Six. GOW feels more like a Halo type game to me. Can't put my finger on it. I enjoy it, but not nearly as much as Rainbow Six: Vegas. Probably because my first love for an FPS was counter strike. Not the same as CS but some core elements are there.

well anyways, yesterday i decided to just rent GOW since I was not planning to buy it anyways and just wanted to see what all the hype is about..and I'm playing the game on the "hardcore" difficulty setting, and it probably has to be the hardest fps game I've ever played...maybe because I wasn't used to the cover system well enough or maybe it takes 23424342 shots just to kill one enemy, i found all of this just kills the fun out of the game...anyone can relate? or do some of you play on the easy difficulty setting?

If you think GOW is hard on the hardcore setting, you should try RB6:V on realistic...IMO much more difficult.

I haven't played GOW on insane yet, and probably won't in single player...I think that is a coop difficulty for me.

dang...it's that hard? oh well. at least it makes me a better player and that it wouldn't feel cheap or anything like that...but is realistic the default difficulty level for rb6 or what?

I finished Vegas on realistic, and it was one the hardest, most frustrating single player experiences I have encountered in 25+ years of gaming. As far as which to buy, I would go with Vegas b/c to me it has more replay value and the MP is more fun, with more maps, more players, and more game modes. GOW is a great game, MP included, but to me it gets a bit repetitive after a while.

It's hard, but the most difficult part about it is that the checkpoints are too far apart in certain areas. If you are patient you can get through it, but I would literally play for 15-20 minute stretches, killing tons of guys, and not get a checkpoint. When you then die, and have to start over, it gets extremely frustrating.

I was forced to become a better player however, which was good. But just be forewarned that it is very difficult, and the only saves available to you (like GOW) are the checkpoint saves. Makes you really value your life when that is the case.

The default setting is "normal". The only other setting is "realistic".
